Re: Fight the Future 15 - Battle Royale

It's not about the violence, and despite all the splatter porn, I don't actually think violence is the point of Battle Royale. My problem is more based around the expectation that characters should behave in an appropriate manner for the environment they're in. For me in the case of BR, this means t...

Re: Fight the Future 15 - Battle Royale

So glad you both managed to watch and cover this in the podcast. Battle Royale is one of my favouritest films, despite some logic flaws in the story - I actually like the way the film doesn't spend too much time explaining the backstory, as you know the more answers they try and give, the more quest...

Re: Doctor Who

Umm pretty sure it was explicitly shown that the Tardis triggered some emergency return function. We had a alert going of, and the airplane like "put your trays in the upright position" thing. Then it cut. I assumed it detected the huge mass of water going at it fast. Although you could s...

Re: Magnum Rewatch 27 - The Sixth Position

The bit I had a problem with was the side plot of the camera lens. Are we really expected to believe that Magnum had the camera (+lens) for so long that Robin Masters came back, borrowed it from the guest house, lost the lens, and put it back in the guest house, all without either Magnum noticing or...

Re: Doctor Who

He traveled in the Tardis back 30 minutes. I believe The Doctor wasn't breaking time at all. He was fulfilling what has always been in place. Blokey escaped by being told to wait in the Tardis and listening because he saw his love interest die from ignoring the Doctor. Yeah, but... How did the ...

Re: Doctor Who

Liked! Indeed, excellent. Cutting the sound as we follow the deaf commander was a really nice way of ramping up the creepyness, and loved Clara getting called out again - that's definitely a recurring theme! And The Fisher King was a great character, would be nice to see more of them (whatever they...

Re: Doctor Who

Each episode pays money to whichever writer created a character appearing in that episode. This isn't the same thing as having the rights to that character, but it is financial incentive to make sure that you create all your main characters. That's interesting, I didn't realise the writers still go...

Re: Doctor Who

None of that stuff was written by Patrick Ness. Union rules give him an incentive not to use characters created by other people, so I think we'll mostly see original characters and monsters and such. I'm a little sad about that, because I thought Courtney had a lot of unrealized potential as a char...

I guess the game Alex was trying to remember was Atmosfear? I really wanted to buy and play that when it came out, but the house I was living at the time in didn't have a VHS player :-( Re: favourite crisps - if you ever get chance to try Prawn Cocktail flavour, do so. Re: Doctor Who

Lastest episode I enjoyed. Pleasantly sinister. Totally agree. The bit with the cards was a nice bit of humour as well, and good to see the Doctor noticing Clara going native! Just a shame about the To Be Continued! I know they didn't really die, but it's still not a good cliffhanger to lea...

Re: Doctor Who

I think my only issue was the Tardis not being destroyed was just "hand waved" away. That fealt cheap to me. I know, it was so bad, it was almost like they brought Russell T Davies back as a guest writer. Luckily the rest of the show was so good, I was happy to ignore small details like t...

That was hilarious, great to see Cam take his rightful spot as ruler of Lrr-toria! P.S. Did someone accidentally leave the software stabilisation turned on while editing the video? The pre-credits sequence is very wibbly-wobbly, stretchy-wetchy. Either that or someone has been getting the camera dru...

Re: Doctor Who

The thing that's most interesting to me about Clara is the way that she wants to be the Doctor. Now I just want to watch the show with her and Missy. Yes, a spin off show with Clara and Missy would be amazing, they were easily the highlight of the first two-parter. Maybe Jenna can come back for a f...

There's nothing wrong with laughing at a bunch of over-entitled pompous pricks like the Tory Eton brigade. Feel free to take the piss out of Cameron as much as you like! :-D In fact it almost feels like "Tory Boy" could be a new meme in the making for when you get bored of "Florida Ma...

Re: Magnum Rewatch 25 - Mad Buck Gibson

I'm not so sure it's entirely out of character. I think that considering that Magnum had been to Vietnam and had been through things and also considering that there are more cancer breakthroughs now than there were in the past, I can see why he'd go, "Hey, this dude deserves to go out the way ...

Re: LRRcast - Sketch vs.Crapshot

So... Sketches are long and time-consuming to make. Crapshots are easier to make and for ideas that are too short to be sketches. Vines are even easier to make and for ideas that are too short to be crapshots. Everyone likes fart noises. So does this mean that in another year's time, the only thing ...

Re: Magnum Rewatch 24 - Wave Goodbye

I enjoyed this episode, felt like another good mystery investigation episode which Magnum needs more of. Though when you said the officer was 'in the bar doing actual work' it is heavily implied at multiple points in the episode that he is an alcholic and goes to the bar to drink during his shift. ...

I can't see why Jenny would fall in love with Higgins, unless it was some kind of setup or practical joke, but I can totally understand why Higgins would act unusual if a young attractive lady showed him attention. Based on my trip to Vancouver a few years ago, there is one important difference that will trip people up moving to Canada from the UK - In the UK, sales tax is embedded into the price, so the number you see on the shelf is the amount you actually have to pay when you get to the till. In Canada howe...

I enjoyed that, even though my only experience playing Magic are the ipad apps. I also don't have an issue with it being nearly two hours, but I can see how someone with more experience of the set being opened might find it get boring quicker. I also like the idea of playing through a game or two on...
