Re: "The Turing Test Thread" or "It's the stories that make it real"

Names are an interesting thing: Eve meaning "living" and Pia meaning "devout", seemingly the wrong way round. The preface stated that names had been changed to protect the innocent, perhaps names had been switched and this was referring to context within story rather than associa...

Re: Modern Brewing Thread

There are a bunch of avenues to explore with Mechanized Production - Myr, Servos, Thopters & Clues are obvious contenders, but I also had vague ideas of combo'ing it with King Macar and some untap engine or with Mycosynth Lattice. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of free time to brew these days....

Re: Modern Deck Outsourcing.

Is there a way to filter that website to not show the cards that you don't have? It is very challenging to brew over search a length of spreadsheets.

I did notice that you have the basics of blue/red delver there though.

Re: Deck list that I would like constructive criticism on

There will be times when you have an Ornithopter but no Tezzeret's Touch, making the 'thopter completely useless. I ran into this trying out Ensoul Artifact back in the day, Ornithopter is just not worth running. Likewise Hope of Ghirapur does not do a great deal unless you have information about ca...

May's letter also ruled out the possibility of a second referendum, or any kind of U-turn or alternative arrangement. We're stuck with it.

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules

May's letter to the EC today was promising (as promising as this mess can be), one of the high-priority outlined objectives being securing the rights of EU nationals in the UK and UK nationals abroad. The letter also stated the intention to effectively adopt existing EU laws & rights as UK ones....

Oh, that's actually really cool then, and thank you for the rules clarification. Yay I learned something new today.

Wish I'd known that when drafting all those Unearth creatures in the MM3 draft I did though!

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk

Unfortunately Unearthed creatures get exiled if they leave the battlefield, so blinking doesn't work. It would be such a wonderfully abusable mechanic if it weren't for that caveat. Storm decks in Commander are always interesting to me - I would never actually play one, but seeing people tackle the ...

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk

The Wishes exile themselves, so I don't think recurring is an option - the only repeatable recur from exile that comes to mind is Academy Ruins + Mirror of Fate, but Mirror eats the rest of your library. You could copy the spell a bunch: Reverberate + Isochron Sceptre + Paradox Engine (does that eve...

Re: The Limited thread

So MM3 draft is (unsurprisingly) completely awesome. Everyone's deck ended up really solid and really enjoyable to play, each archetype very much did it's thing, (and yes, forcing 5-colour signets can work). I went 2-1 with a Grixis tempo deck that was a huge amount of fun, and Grixis-tempo'd in jus...

Re: Design a Card

Wording it like Nivmagus would certainly work. If you use this ability on a spell that doesn't target, it will create infinite copies with no drawback, (such things are usually templated with the caveat "with a single target"). I would suggest something along the lines of: Exile an instant...

Re: Standard Discussion

I love that some of the AER archetypes are so well supported that one can create very different likewise decks. I was pondering a B/G counters deck in a very different direction: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/20-01-17-AYl-bg-counters/ Yours seems more geared towards big midrange plays, so I would d...

Also the Expertise looks like it could open up some pretty bonkers Zada shenanigans, I'd love to hear how you get on with it.

Also also, Standard sure is going to be different with the new release/bans. What are you fine folks brewing or looking forward to?

2-3 with GWb Revolt, (why are my sealed pools always Green/White?). Deck was very heavily synergistic, 8 Revolt cards and 7 ways to directly trigger it - lots of Acrobatic Maneuver shenanigans, turn 2 Greenwheel Liberator with revolt trigger a couple of times, splash for Hidden Stockpile very much w...

Don't forget Stasis Snare has flash, you can exile Emrakul before the end of the turn on which she was cast. But having protection from instants, you make a very valid point for every other removal spell in the format.

I don't follow Modern, so couldn't comment on Probe & Troll, but am very surprised at all three Standard bans. Copter was busted, but there were plenty of ways to deal with it, and more excellent answers coming in AER. It being ubiquitous is the only problem I see with it, but with control &...

Players of all formats: talk about what you're hyped for.

So far,

Disallow. Spoiled a while ago, but that is a sexy counterspell. Making room for it in my Standard Spirits and CanLander decks.

Revolt mechanic. Aristocrats-ish archetype in limited maybe?

Gremlin tokens. Gremlin tokens!

How does the new Dirk Gently compare to the (depressingly cancelled) 2010 Stephen Mangan version? Watched a couple of things recently: latest season of the techno-paranoia horror/comedy Black Mirror was a little hit or miss, but still one of the best shows I've seen. More techno-paranoia in Humans, ...

I live in the UK and can confirm that the above statements about this country are absolutely not true. We have massive problems over here, but a fundamental ignorance towards mental health and wellbeing is not one of them.

I'm half way into H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald. It's devastatingly beautiful. I usually get through books quickly, and have a half dozen or so on the go at the same time - but this book has had the entirety of my attention for quite some time now. One of my all-time favourites.
