Re: Design a Card

Yeah, I like that and I would have to have the qualifier for it being a targeted spell. What do people think of the risk vs reward of this card? I know people tend to avoid things of chance in Magic, but I want it to be attractive enough to try in some situations, but not unpunishing so that it's al...

I think if I take out the target part it might fix that. Thinking like Nivmagus Elemental.

Re: Design a Card

Ok, Hi all! I have need of more wording help: [NAME] 2UR Legendary Creature If another card would cause you to roll a die or flip a coin you may perform that action up to two additional times, replacing the original result with the newest one. Exile target spell you control from the stack: Put a cop...

Re: Design a Card

Yes, Memo is correct. Everytime it blocks it builds itself up and then smashes in, unleashing its pent up anger. Then it cools off and goes back to normal. Also, yes, Seethe N means it would get N counters per creature it blocked this turn. So if it has some clause that it can block more than one it...

Re: Design a Card

RB Mechanic I'm working on. I think it's okay, but not sure about the wording. Seethe 1 (At each end step, if this creature attacked this turn, remove all +1/+1 counters from it. Then, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature for each creature blocked by this creature, this turn.) Thinking about a range...

Re: Design a Card

@Re'ozul I can't say I was around when Scout's warning was in, but it does look like a good card. Yours however has a couple of drawbacks. One, to get the most out of this card you are going to have to have a clear board; two you have to reveal the card you want to cast before you cast it. This mean...

Re: Design a Card

@chetoos While that's true, these tokens aren't copies. So they aren't planeswalkers at all. I should probably have them get the same card types too, but right now they don't have subtypes so the uniqueness rule shouldn't apply.

Re: Design a Card

Ok, let's try this: Temporal Resonance -- XXWU Sorcery Choose a target creature you control. Search your library for up to X creatures cards with the same name as the target creature and exile them. For each creature card exiled this way create a token named “Echo of Time”, with the same base power,...

Re: Design a Card

@SixFootTurkey - Kalastria shouldn't be a problem since the others enter with different names and lose their subtypes (i.e. Ally). Gary is a bit bigger of an issue. I'll probably change it to a sorcery (I still like instant speed, but I can see the case against it) then and bump up the cost to be XX...

Re: Design a Card

Fixed the bit with copies of creatures to cards with the same name. Seemed strange originally since I was just going to change the names of them anyway. X spell go get X copies is a really good idea and I'm not sure why I didn't think of it at all, so I'll probably go that route. The reason it's an ...

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge

Theoretically: If a planeswalker would somehow loses its planeswalker typing would you be able to activate its loyalty abilities anymore? Like if a a basic land loses its subtype, it cannot produce mana tied to that subtype unless it has text saying otherwise, correct?

Re: Design a Card

@SixFootTurkey Yes, I did see your design, it more or less conveys what I was thinking, the only reason I think I like the coin idea better is because it might make a better visual reminder than a present/absent counter. Not sure what you meant by "randomness" (maybe Artirian_Legacy's desi...

Re: Design a Card

I think the main thing I wanted to set out with the shift land design is that you need to plot out your course for mana at least a few turns in advance. In my head, the player chooses the starting state of the counter and then has to make sure that they plot according to what that mana will be when ...

Re: Design a Card

Ok, I want to try lands again, since they seem to be really tricky to design. I'm thinking about a dual land that shifts the color of mana it produces whenever it is tapped. Right now I don't know how to mark two different states so I'm thinking of a coin. So something like this: ___________________...

Re: Design a Card

Not sure I like giving my opponent a creature with my planeswalker. Any aversion to just giving it to my side of the board? Also, what's the starting loyalty on this guy/girl/dragon/thing? For the -X ability you shouldn't have to reveal unless you want that to be part of a downside, same with the cr...

Re: Design a Card

From a playability perspective I'd much rather have the first to dig X when I have mana to dump or am short of six, but can take my chances on a smaller number. Also, since this is Blue (Although this feels more Green), I can potentially set this up with scrying or other tricky blue things, and use ...

Ok, here's a mechanic idea: MECHNAME <Cost> (As you cast this spell or a spell that shares a card type with this spell, you may pay <Cost>. If you do, you may cast that spell as if it were/had [Faster Card Speed - e.g. an instant, had flash, had splitsecond, etc.]. If you use this effect on another ...

Re: Design a Card

Dynamic seems a little lackluster; you have either a 3/2 or a 2/3; "Dynamic N" might be interesting. (Edit: By lackluster, I mean it has very restricted design space; yes you can put it on anything, but putting it most things won't really affect the creature in the vast majority of cases,...

Re: Design a Card

I think this is my favorite mechanic that I've ever designed: It's called Dynamic, and it's super-simple. Attacking creatures with Dynamic get +1/+0, and blocking creatures with Dynamic get +0/+1. http://i.imgur.com/p0N9wox.png I don't know why I love it so much, but I do. I like it. Straightforwar...

Re: Design a Card

A few concerns: 1) Black has never really been one for fixing; any fixing it has will usually come at an additional cost. (Same goes for acceleration - though it does get B acceleration.) (Making it BG might be a flavor win here; fits mechanics, and it's a green creature that would generate mana fr...

So here's that creature I was talking about in the earlier post: Essence (2B) Creature - Alien Thief (Uncommon) Whenever Essence Thief deals combat damage to a creature add one mana of one of that creature’s colors to your mana pool. Whenever Essence Thief deals combat damage to a player you may add...

Re: Design a Card

I had thought I heard about something that allowed you to give your opponent mana which is why I didn't change it to "a source you control". In this case, I would say that whoever controls the source also controls the target. That would be a better question for a judge, but that is the way...
