Re: The unoffical UK LRR Fancon/meet-up thread
York Uni wise, it might be better to talk directly to the individual colleges. The best might be Goodrick college (On the new campus), Halifax college (might be the best during term time as it is the least used) or the Edge bar (James' college) All this really depends on if you are in or out of term...

Re: The unoffical UK LRR Fancon/meet-up thread
If you are looking at York, who are you talking to? I have an in there (I'm PhD student) so can try and reach out to people who might be able to help. In addition, I have contacts in local York pubs ect. Brigantes bar and grill have a room that can hold 20-30ish with wifi. This would be a free venue...

Re: The unoffical UK LRR Fancon/meet-up thread
Birmingham would be my vote. York could be a possibility. It's on the main train line from London to Edinburgh and Birmingham to Newcastle. I think it has some of the best train links outside of the bigger cities. It's also quite small which might work for a meet up.

Re: Blip downloads and quicktime not working
I have only tested the downloads so far, but for the GPLP the download was only 37Kbs and the vid was so short I did not have time to observe the image but I am guessing by your description (short vid) that this is my issue. I will test the other options (quicktime and other vids) in the morning. OS...

Re: askLRR Thread for Jan 28! Closes soon!
Hey, Love the videos, so gald I discovered you all those (2/3) years ago. The question I have is, I know you have filmed a lot over at the Uni and Jer now attends so you might be able to answer this. I am looking around for postdoc positions as I have to start applying end of this year. Vic Uni seem...

Re: Introduce yourselves! (A friendly topic for new members)
When you say next 30 years when should we really expect it? Yay to fellow physical scientist. When I say 30 years, I am hopping this is the maximum time. The reason for this is due to the demands on Moore's law to continue. If Moore's law were to continue at it's present rate, silicon will obsolete...

Re: My Problem With Forums That Get Too Big
When it comes to forums and blogs, I always end up lurking, less because of the number of members, and more because threads end up getting very long very quickly and I worry that if I do end up posting I'll just repeat something someone has already said and has been discussed at length. [awaits the ...
