Re: PAX Prime 2012
Wife and I are getting super pumped. We just started figuring out our panel schedule and started locking down meeting up with friends and what not. We are going to have to run from the Acquisitions Inc D&D panel to make it to Tally's but we are planning on being there. You know... like a bad dad...

A thing I made: Flickr Live Search
Yeah so, in applying for jobs I was asked to make a thing that digested a third party service, so I went with Flickr because I like to browse Flickr but the main flickr site is kinda shitty to do it from because clicking a thumbnail takes you to a new page. I could probably expand this into an actua...

Re: Fitocracy: LoadingReadyRunners
Thanks for the tips guys, pounded out three sets of 70 lbs. *High Five* Nice job! I upgraded one set of dumbbells today from 40 -> 55 which is what I thought I would be for chest exercises but I think the 55's are going to be where my biceps are at which means for free weights for chest I will need...

Re: Fitocracy: LoadingReadyRunners
Is it weird if I hit a wall with that? Last time I could do ten reps of 65 lb dumbbell bench press, but not even one at 70 lbs. What up? Nope that happens all the time. Usually it means you need to switch up your press or whatever lift/press you are working on. Try doing floor presses, they work mo...

Re: Fitocracy: LoadingReadyRunners
Just a quick reminder, and I know I am guilty of this on occasion too. Don't fall into the trap of the high rep myth. (The other myths on the list are traps too but I see this one far to often). http://exercise.about.com/od/exerciseworkouts/ss/strengthmyths_2.htm Basically if you are doing a ton of ...

Just finished Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein I ordered a bunch of Gene Wolfe books but Amazon hasn't shipped them yet which is strange... Anyway I am starting on Ilium by Dan Simmons which is his adaptation of The Illiad. I am looking forward to it. I really enjoyed reading The Illiad...

Re: Books you're reading now
Currently reading Hyperion by Dan Simmons. A very interesting series of short stories in the same universe with an interesting framing story. It is one of those sci-fi books where there is little exposition and you have to figure out how the universe works through context and hints which I enjoy an...

I had the same thing with milk. I usually have dairy anyways. Can't go without cheese very long :( But yeah, I'm allergic to casein and whey. No shit? Milk and me don't get along either but for me it is the lactose. I stay away from milk and high lactose items but most cheeses I am fairly ok with a...

So over the past three weeks here I have been testing for a possible gluten intolerance through diet restriction. As it turns out... yes I am gluten intolerant (not celiac) and probably have been my whole life. This has lead to a few interesting discoveries now that I have been staying on a restrict...

I work out at home. I have a thing with people.. and seeing me sweat.. unless I am in a martial arts class I just can't work out in front of other people. This is one of the reasons I can never work running into my regime. So I buy equipment I need. Various dumbells, Kettlebells, Olympic Barbell and...

Well, my other problem is that it hurts my back. I've had people look at me do them so I could correct my posture but apparently I do them fine. So I'm going to look into doing planks instead. But thanks for the link, these website are pretty cool. Pick up an ab roller. Go easy, start from your kne...

Re: Fitocracy: LoadingReadyRunners
Posture, maybe, but it seems to me that they isolate the lower abs and hip flexers, not the abs as a whole. -m Ah... I should elaborate. I am talking about the reverse crunch with leg lift. The normal reverse crunch isolates lower, just as normal regular crunch isolates upper. This one. This is the...

Re: Fitocracy: LoadingReadyRunners
While you are looking at crunches... reverse crunches are better for your posture and your well being in general. They work more of your abdominal muscles than a standard crunch as well.

Re: Discussion thread for fighters and martial artists
Thought I would check in. I usually try to avoid martial arts discussions... most degenerate into "Yeah well my art would dominate yours and here is why..." etc... but I think that can be avoided here. I do Hapkido, which is a good mix of standing, ground, and grappling. Unfortunately my i...

Re: Studying Japanese?
Hmm I could add Hangul pretty easily. Kanji is a beast. I want to do it but the problems are several. 1.) Every Kanji symbol can change its pronunciation depending on its position, the words around it, and in some cases the intent of the writer. 2.) I haven't found a good resource that provides the ...

I'll see a physician as soon as I'm back in France to ask about it. No insurance in the US though. I'll check asthma specific exercises, thanks for the suggestion. Asthmatic here.
