Philip K. Dick. Anything by him, really, but:

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
Ubik
A Scanner Darkly
The Man in the High Castle
The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch

Bebop Man wrote:Finishing The Body Artist by Dom DeLillo. I like it, hadn't read anything quite like it in a while.

I've got White Noise by Don DeLillo on my shelf, might have to read that one next.

Re: Big Changes

First off, congratulations! It takes a lot of courage to stand up and claim your identity. The LRR community in general is pretty great and accepting, I know there are a few other trans folk that hang around here (myself among them). So if you ever want to talk to myself or anyone else you find, fee...

Re: Rise of the Eldrazi Flashback Draft

The basic trap of Rise of the Eldrazi is that a vanilla 2/2 for 2 mana is unplayable, instead of playable. You want to focus on building a deck that'll play well in the late game. The set plays battlecruiser magic, where both players throw big haymakers until the other one dies.

Re: Books you're reading now

I dunno, I suppose I like it because it allows the author to make connections between points in the novel or to world build, or to show related events, whatever, while not breaking the flow of the bulk of the novel or info-dumping through a token info-dump character. Several of my favorite parts of ...

Re: Books you're reading now

House of Leaves is definitely one of the best books I've read in the past year. It sets the atmosphere absolutely perfectly, and all of the characters are incredibly well written. Beyond that, it's truly unnerving and suspenseful and the formatting, while some may claim it's a gimmick, I feel it doe...

Re: Books you're reading now

I just started it, so I can't say much about it, but I've enjoyed what I've read so far. Really enjoying 1Q84. Just had the reveal of how the stories intersect. Thanks for the recommendation Volafortis! Yeah, I've found it has a very nice flow, it's done a very good job of pulling me through the no...

I have a backlog of like 30 books right now, and am probably not going to stop getting new ones ever, so it'll only keep growing.

Currently reading 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami.

Re: Let's Chat About Gender and How Biological Sex Isn't Rea

Yeah, John Oliver TOTALLY nailed everything there. He brought up a lot of serious issues the trans community faces, didn't focus exclusively on trans women/celebrities, just an overall spectacular segment on the state of trans rights.

Re: Let's Chat About Gender and How Biological Sex Isn't Rea

Yep, AMAB/AFAB are the most common terms used within the trans community to refer to assigned at birth sex, and it's really only relevant in some situations, for instance a trans woman needing her prostate examined. In casual conversation, however, it's best to just avoid saying unless it's somehow ...

Re: Let's Chat About Gender and How Biological Sex Isn't Rea

I don't believe anyone in the thread is trying to claim that chromosomes don't exist, because obviously they do. The issue is the ambiguity of the term "Biological" because there are multiple biological determining factors of gender and sex. Most people who try to pin down "biological...

Re: This thread is so gay

I might go briefly to Twin Cities Pride this weekend, so that might be fun, depends on how much free time I find myself with while I'm in the cities. Beyond that, nothing much going on with my bisexuality. Going back to school this fall though, so I might actually get to form an LGBT peer group, so ...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Makes sense. How does the deck seem to run against dredge? Obviously they help you out some by reducing your mana/storm needed, but I think it might be worth sticking in a second Ravenous Trap. Surgical Extraction is good against Dredge, but it's not a game breaker for them, and I like the have at l...

Oh, I'd never suggest going to 61.

Obviously I don't know the metagame, but your deck list looks well equipped to play through hate with the mainboard Flusterstorms and the ability to Cunning Wish for sideboard tech.

Okay, I know Solidarity can be rough in a meta that packs a lot of disruption, how do you feel about your ability to beat opposing Force of Wills, do you have anything akin to Snap in your sideboard to play through hate bears, like Thalia/Gaddock Teeg? How do you feel about your sideboard in general...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

How much farther away is it, and how confident are you in your Legacy deck?

I personally would go for the $25 one, but if you have an untested brew, rather than an actual tier deck you're practiced with, I'd recommend the $10 one, as it's likely a better way to just get some deck experience.

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

MBS wall the small set of the block, so ideally if you can also find a box of SOM for fairly cheap, that's the best way to draft it. (I feel like New Phyrexia didn't support the themes for the block draft very well, though. I prefer SOM block draft as just 3 SOM or 2 SOM, 1 MBS. Either way, GB Infec...
