Re: The Force Awakens.

Presumably living near a port where humans appeared to be in the minority, she picked up a number of languages. I don't know if the Wookiee language was ever established to be a difficult language to learn in-universe, but I don't believe Chewbacca was ever shown having difficulties communicating w...

Re: The General Chat thread

So something has been bothering me all day and I dont know why but here it is. In the Star Trek universe, why arn't there more Vulcan captains, for that matter, why aren't MOST of Star Fleets captains Vulcan? Here is my logic. Vulcans are stronger, faster, and more intelligent than humans, they are...

Different branches of a surprisingly large tree.

And:
8 years English
4 years Latin
3 years Spanish
2 years French

Except in French and Latin I get by okay.

It's good how proud the British are, when they get out one or two words of a foreign language.

Yeah, we have similar collections in German. Especially rhyming seems to be popular, I once read an entire trial in rhyme.

Re: A question about copyright on youtube

Finally something. Smeghead, I think you should talk to your boss about this whole idea and get a specialized lawyer (or a general counsel if you have one at hand) to look this over. Because this opinion piece in Wired basically tells you all about your situation: Could work, might end badly.

Re: A question about copyright on youtube

This is what the dispute over the Summer between YouTube and Indie labels was all about. YouTube wants to force them all to accept the exact deal they made with the major labels. So yes, these deals exist. Here's my problem: You keep referring to a contract you say exists. If such a contract existe...

Re: A question about copyright on youtube

In the vast majority of cases with popular music covers your school may post, you'll be covered by YouTube's agreement with the artist/label, and being "flagged" simply means they'll put ads and pass along the revenue, but does not count as a copyright violation because you're essentially...

Re: What is Adam Baldwin thinking?

There's no conflict of interest if the exchange is one way. Like, say a Restaurant Critic for the New York Times has a favorite restaurant. They go to the restaurant all the time. There's nothing that should stop them from writing a review of that restaurant, even though they've contributed money t...

Re: Custom cards - Playability assessment

That doesn't help, because the activation is simply to weak to actually warrant any use. You would have to be in a situation where you accepted putting yourself on a 19-turn clock to draw one card. Meanwhile your opponent draws two cards every turn regardless of what you do. Nitpicking: You named th...

No, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory things with the intention of provoking an emotional reaction. What you described is the actual advocatus diaboli, which is an actual and important role in a debate.

But can I get a call on Goodwin's Law while we're at it?

Re: Custom cards - Playability assessment

Frankly you couldn't pay me to play this card. Just imagine you played this with five counters on it. Your opponent immediately pays five mana, you gain 10 life. And gave your opponent five 3/3s. And +2/+2 to his other creatures.

My advice would be to get some distance to your cousin. Because from what I read, you have not two but three people who have to become active and that obviously hasn't happened. Your cousin doesn't seem to be willing to take the necessary steps to get his parents working / out of his apartment, so w...

Re: What is Adam Baldwin thinking?

So you can have a phobia of something without being scared of it. For example, a lot of homophobes state religious grounds for opposing homosexuality. In other words, they think their religious beliefs are threatened by homosexuals, and thus they have a fear of them. That argument might work better...

Re: What is Adam Baldwin thinking?

It's not the only word with 'phobe' in it. I believe the only real difference between a 'phobe' and a 'phobia' is how it is used in a sentence. Someone 'has' a -phobia, therefore they 'are' a -phobe. I think he meant the question as "Why are derogatory and hostile sentiments toward homosexuals...

But that's just it: We're seeing it break down. There's clearly a notion of 'gamer' as an identity, hence why we get the constant "they're not real gamers" comments whenever any poll shows that yes, more women and older people (and older women, for that matter) are playing games. The noti...

Well, the French will help you learn Spanish, but German, Welsh and English are the wrong family, no help there. I think in a few regards Elomin Sha is right. I only watched the last video, so I will talk about that: I got the impression this video was not an exploration but a search for arguments for a position. The two theories were: "Video games use sexual violence against women as shorthand for the mo...
