Crapshots Idea/Script: The Container
(Something I bashed out on the fly on the Book of Faces, and realized it could be a decent, if niche, Crapshot.) Title Card: An Allegory for Linux Containers Kernel Hacker: "Here's a power saw." Clueless Developer #1: "WOW! A HOUSE-BUILDER!" KH: "Uh, not really. It's just a ...

Re: I Found this on YouTube [Post yer links]
This is a semi-documentary of the work of Shadoe Stevens in the early- to mid-1980s. And he was quite, quite mad:

Re: Whatever Thing
Alternatively, it would be interesting to see Kathleen's take on Man Cooking. Actually, I did find myself wondering about a Man Cooking segment, but with an all-female cast. The conceit would be the same, the writing and delivery would be the same, but it would be all women. "The men are all o...

I just binge-viewed all the Whatever Thing videos on YouTube. Prior to last night, I did not know these existed. Several thoughts compete for expression: ⋅ Even in the confines of a badly lit bedroom, your stuff was still quite good. ⋅ You guys have refined your stuff considerabl...

I originally conceived Paul in the role of the PROSELYTE, but Andy Cownden would almost certainly be excellent, too. Jer, obviously, is the police OFFICER :-). ---- EXT. Re: So, I got a new hard drive... (computer tech question)
-If you have an unused 5.25" slot, there are adapters you can buy so that you can securely hold a hard drive in there. ^^ This. What will overheat your drive is not "insulation" per se. What will overheat it is insufficient air moving across it. Drive bays are positioned so that they...

Re: Mattrick Goes to the Dogs
Oh, another point about that graph: It lists the Sega 32X as a separate console. It wasn't. It was an add-on for the Sega Genesis -- a stop-gap upgrade to extend the life of the Genesis (which didn't work very well) while the Saturn was being finished -- and as such probably shouldn't have its own e...

Re: Mattrick Goes to the Dogs
As a former employee of The 3DO Company, I'm going to have to register objection against the console price graph. All it shows is launch prices. It doesn't show console prices over time. The Panasonic FZ-1 (the first 3DO console) did indeed launch for $699, but dropped to $499 less than a year later...

Disturbing horsemask is disturbing. Oh man, when I got my new camera that used memory for footage instead of tapes was the best day ever. It wasn't just the realtime dumping from camera to computer that was a pain, it was that the process was sensitive enough to buffer failures that you really reall...

Apropos of nothing: When I discovered earlier this week that all the Checkpoints had been moved to YouTube -- thereby making them viewable to me -- I spent the last couple days power-bingeing through all of them. There's 100 of them, apparently (97 if you exclude the "Rejected" installment...

The general idea for this popped into my head, and it wouldn't go away. Casting is semi-arbitrary, but one of Cam's lines is uniquely Cam's. -------- EXT. Day -- Street. Dear LRR (ruler of the planet Omicron Persei 8):
In your episode, "Resolved," you had a throwaway reference to Kingston vs. PNY SD cards. Given that you've clearly had lots of experience with non-volatile storage, could you hold forth on your experiences with various brands of SD cards?

I use Kdenlive for editing because A) I don't have a Mac; and B) I'm a cheap bastard. It won't auto-sync separate audio tracks (so you have to slate them). However, once you've eyeballed them into sync, it will let you "group" them so they can be dragged around and treated as a single thin...

Tech Question: I also have a Zoom H4n, but on those occasions I've tried to record more than one person, it doesn't sound all that great, especially with the mic that far away. At around 2:15, when you're experimenting with your de-screened microwave oven, there's this horrible buzzing noise. Assuming you didn't add it in post, that noise is the microwaves interacting with the electronics in your camera... And with the people standing in front of you. Inverse squared law m...
