Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Alright I just had this happen and I need somewhere to rant about: Did you know that Lich's Mastery only prevents you from Losing the Game, but that your opponent can still Win the Game? This is, as far as I can see, the only card in MTG history that has a blanket "Can't Lose the Game" sta...

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge

Do Damping Sphere and cards such as Mana Flare or Heartbeat of Spring that add extra mana when a land is tapped for mana interact at all? Or that extra mana not considered to have come from the land itself? (I know the Oracle on how Mana Flare works has changed over the years)

Re: LRR Destiny Guild still live

Did something happen to Sparrow Squad? Trying to join but I see a lot of clans with that name (or similar names) but none seem LRR related.

Sigil of the Empty Throne? Wow this set has a ton of enchantment support. Where was this during ENCHANTMENT BLOCK?!

Christ alive Origins has almost as many Enchantment Matters cards as most of Theros!

Re: Spoiler Season: Magic Origins

So, Hallowed Moonlight, it's Containment Priest minus the creature plus a card draw. Might get into some modern sideboards if the Grishoalbrand deck and CoCo decks keep going up in popularity. The Great Aurora is like... okay so I can cast a spell that costs more than some Eldrazi and then I get.......

Re: Spoiler Season: Magic Origins

Although we will be visiting Lorwyn specifically, it's my understanding that by the end of that block, Lorwyn and Shadowmoor "fused" together and doesn't change anymore. Indeed, though At the BEGINNING of Lorwyn block we saw the Lorwyn 5 planeswalkers all introduced together as fully form...

Re: Spoiler Season: Magic Origins

Lorwyn-Shadowmoor has 10 black Elf cards and 12 white Elf cards, so I consider that plane's elves to be more white than black. Lorwyn and Shadowmoor don't exist at the same time though, with Shadowmoor having the white elves and Lorwyn having the black elves. Given that it would appear that Lorwyn ...

Re: Spoiler Season: Magic Origins

You messed up your example a bit, as the end would be X+2, not X+3 unless you have to skip a turn. But I agree. The fact this has to hit first is a big deal. And you either have to use another spell to help force it to get through, or be lucky enough to swing into an empty board state. For a second...

Re: Spoiler Season: Magic Origins

Honored Hierarch is a joke though. You're unlikely to be able to get in damage with it unless you play it turn 1, and then you've got a mana dork you can't use on turn 2 because it doesn't get vigilance until AFTER you swing with it the first time. Oiy. It seems like it's designed for fixing, not r...

Re: Spoiler Season: Magic Origins

So Starfield of Nyx seems powerful, makes me want to put it in some kind of Enduring Ideal deck in modern. Day's Undoing is Time Twister with a serious drawback... BUT... it's interesting that you can completely avoid that drawback if you have Leyline of Anticipation in play, in which case you get t...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

You could always try brewing up a more controlling infect deck, kind of like the legacy version Tom Ross played a while back.

As a rule, if I want to know what's hot in the world of infect, I look to Tom Ross -_^

Jenelmo wrote:Grim Tutor sometimes sees play in Legacy

Aye, tho it also has a hefty life cost too. I wonder if it would see any more play if it was just demonic/diabolic tutor style effect. Would it be good enough for modern? Too good for modern?

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

So, demonic tutor is too good even for legacy at 2 mana. Diabolic Tutor wasn't even good enough for most Standard decks at 4 mana. Where do folks feel a 3 mana tutor would land? What formats would it be not too good for?

Judge! What happens when Opalescence, Humility, Mycosynth Lattice, and Enchanted Evening are all in play together? EDIT: And march of the Machines too Judges stop responding to your questions and your commander group stops playing with you when they realize you're building decks just to troll them.

For some reason the art on Dragonscale General always makes her look like she's some kind of towering colossus who's like 50 feet tall or something.

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

I think I'm going to start some kind of campaign: "Print Brago, King Eternal in a Modern legal set"

Card is so fun but is too weak for legacy. -_-

Next question:

Does Training Grounds reduce Ninjutusu costs, or not because it's not a creature when the ability is used?

Re: Banlist changes - Modern, Legacy, Vintage

All hail the new ban list.

I think the Pod ban was fair. It only got more powerful with literally every set released after it, and would only continue to do so. At some point you have to stop it before it becomes unbeatable or warps the entire format to beat it.

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

So, new mechanic announced. You put stuff from a zone (usually library) face down on the board as a 2/2. You can turn it up for morph cost OR casting cost if it's a creature without morph. Neat.
