I don't think you can REALLY compare the two. The Beatles played pop-rock with progressive elements, and Pink Floyd played Progressive rock with pop elements. Also, SPLHCB came out 6 years BEFORE DSotM, which could have greatly effected the sound. However, none of that answered the question. Dark Si...

right now i'm listening to a lot of dancy-punky music (dance-punk anyone). mostly stuff like the liars and !!! (pronounce as: chk chk chk).

This one was a lot better than the last LRR3k. It was just a lot more clear, and just plain better.
I liked it a lot, especially the superman gag.

as far as the local scene goes, I would highly recommend any of the following bands:

1) black tie social
2) the raygun
3) counting heartbeats
4) immaculate machine
5) one drop

there are plenty of others, but I feel those are some of the better ones.
