Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Did a Modern Masters Swiss and did fairly well, going 2-1 with a removal-heavy Black/Red Goblins deck. My one loss and one of my wins were against other Black/Red decks (although one was splashing some white), and the other win was against what looked like a Red/Blue storm/burn deck. Only semi-value...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Well one of my dreams came true tonight, I got to play LRR in a draft that was being streamed. Well at least by Graham. And it happened totally by chance too. Wednesday is one of the nights I usually draft and it's not a night we usually get a LRR stream. I joined the queue, started the draft and ju...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

In case anyone hasn't heard the news, the normal Modern Masters drafts on MTGO have had their prices reduced by 5 tickets (from 30 or 9 and product to 25 or 4 and product). The Premier draft price will stay the same. Also of note is the Phantom drafts will start on the 14th instead of the 21st. I'm ...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

I get the prizes are more valuable, but that's more than offset by everyone having to buy those same prizes to enter on top of the 9 ticket premium. In normal drafts, they make roughly a $64 ($112 in, $48 out,) profit, in these drafts they will be making roughly a $156 ($240 in, $84 out) profit. Ob...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

The reason why it's a higher cost is due to the prize being more valuable. Assuming they're paying out Modern Masters packs, that means they're giving out about $84 worth of packs (averaging ~12 packs a draft). At 9 tix per person, with 8 people per draft, that means they're getting $72 worth of ti...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Looks like we'll be able to draft some Modern Masters on MTGO, for the low, low price of 30 tickets or 3 boosters (which are $7 in the store) and 9 tickets. http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/other/05282013d I get the packs being the price they are, but that high a premiu...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Just had an opponent (a fellow LR clan member by the way) pull off an insane yet ultimately awesome play to win our DGR draft match. The board was stalled for the most part, but I was threatening to take over with an active Progenitor Mimic (which I used to copy that DGM hexproof 3/2 flyer so it was...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

I did a couple of the pre-release drafts on MTGO and they were... let's go with interesting. Dragon's Maze clearly isn't designed to be drafted by itself that's for sure. But these few days are basically the only time we'll ever get to try it, so figured might as well give it a shot. And there can b...

Re: Dragon's Maze Previews

The issue with Rubblebelt Maaka is that the base creature is a lot less inciting. Most draft decks are happy to run a 3/2 for 3, especially with the bloodrush. On the other hand, a 3/3 for 4... people will run canyon minotaurs but you're rarely happy about it. I kind of imagine he's going to end up...

Re: Dragon's Maze Previews

So looks like the full set is out now. Some of the ones I liked or at least found interesting... 1. Pontiff of Blight... Build your own Extort deck! Also, Double-Extort! 2. Rubblebelt Maaka... Very similar to Slaughterhorn, but as red he goes into Boros and Rakdos decks too, where the Giant Growth h...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Anyone get into some Shadowmoor/Eventide drafting on MTGO yet? I'm a total sucker for when they put up older formats as I really wasn't into the game when most of them were released, so of course I did a couple. Not surprising my first draft was over quick, losing in the 1st round (although it was a...

Notion Thief, AKA the real 'FUCK YOU SPHINX'S REVELATION' card. Yep, and it completely owns a card like Brainstorm too. "Nah, I'll draw those 3 cards and you will draw none but you can go ahead and still put 2 cards on top of your library" And for the visual... https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn....

Re: Figuring out Formats

I've just recently got into Pauper, and if you want a constructed format that allows you to play in tournaments and such it's a great way to go. You can get a top-tier or very close to top-tier deck for like 20 tickets or less (there are some that are more expensive though) and play in daily events....

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

The Golgari guy seems cool, and nice potential combo with the Simic champion. Put them together with some Adaptive Snapjaw type creatures (or the new Zhur-Taa Ancient guy, which I'm not sure if he qualifies as Biggest Pig or not) and you've got counters all over the place. Also, this is one heck of ...

Oh spoiler season, what a cruel, cruel beast you are... Seriously though, why isn't Dragon's Maze here already? I wish I could flip a bunch of coins and cut the wait down for every heads. Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Really love the idea of Fuse cards, especially in a set like Dragon's Maze. Ral Zarek looks awesome too, I'm already wanting to make an all "coin-flip" deck with him and Krark's Thumb, maybe some Voliatle Rigs, Creepy Dolls, and Chance Encounters. I also now can't wait for the crazy storie...

Re: Bioshock Infinite

What do people think of the playable stinger, BTW? Is it proof that one version of Booker and Anna survived ? Or is it simply Booker, pre-game, stumbling about in his office drunk and forgetting he sold his daughter ? I lean to the latter, since it's still in black and white. That means it's in...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

I think I like Contaminated Ground a bit more than most, but even then it's only really ever a sideboard card. The problems with it are that it's almost completely useless in the late-game and that even on turn 2 there are games where it simply does nothing or very little. While I have seen it work ...

Re: My April Fools sealed pool

I had a lot of fun with the event too. As a recent returning player I really didn't know any of the cards outside of a few (like Skynight Legionnaire), but still managed to 4-0 with a mostly mono-white deck. Not even sure it was the best possible deck, but it had a good curve, some removal and trick...

Re: Favorite Sanctioned Format, and Why.

I definitely have to go with draft, specifically booster draft. As others have said, it certainly can fluctuate depending on the set, but even the worst format is probably still ahead of any other format for me. For one, there's just something I love about cracking open a pack, having that chance fo...
