Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge

Just to make sure, would you be able to do the same trick with Stifle? When the Perplexing Chimera ability resolves, control exchange happens if chosen to do so and then new targets can be chosen. Is that still part of the spell resolution, allowing you to change the target of Stifle to the Chimera ...

As a note, because Snow Lands also have the Basic type you can have as many of those as you want as well.

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge

Drana's activated ability has only one target, being the creature that gets -0/-X. In order to counter the ability besides Stifling it, you need to get rid of said targeted creature so the ability would have an invalid target (flickering, bouncing, killing, whatever). Or hexproofing it, I guess. You...

Re: Khans of Tarkir Speculation

I heard "Phyrexian Eldrazi" and started imagining a card with 9 CMC, but it's a colorless Phyrexian mana, so if you really feel ambitious you could pay 18 life to drop it on turn 1. Feels like Vintage. Maybe there will be an expansion on the story of Garruk and Liliana with the Chain Veil ...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

I suppose running a ramp deck with Voyaging Satyr and Cultivate helping me find basic lands lets me play guildgates without worry. In the case of a much more aggressive deck, I would definitely opt out on guildgates where I know I want to make sure I keep playing spells. But since I'm a greedy playe...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

The Steam community page for DotP 2015 is an interesting place. Nevermind the constant flow of criticism for the game, we got such a huge variety of players and game mentality. It's like I'm at a game store for a prerelease or FNM, I like it. One topic came up and I was curious to know what you guys...

Re: So that just happened (funny MTG stories)

As one of the handful of Steam users who actually got DotP 2015 to run properly, I'm having quite a lot of silly fun with this game. Specifically with Spider Spawning. http://puu.sh/afYUf.jpg What you see here is an attempt by two enemy Palace Guards (can block any number of creatures) to block abou...

Re: Duels 2015

Non-iPad versions have now been released. http://puu.sh/ae7Zu.jpg A good start. This is just from me trying to change the game to windowed mode at 16:9 ratio. Somehow I should've expected the graphical settings for Steam to be this bad, as it's clearly never priority or even on the checklist in the ...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

As for Jalira, I feel you only want her, token makers, and big stuff. I'd say you'd want to go U/W at least. Maybe full-on Bant if you want to try Yisan (since he's in the loophole with token makers on how to avoid putting something weak on the field). I'd say besides token makers, you want all of ...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Evasion should usually mean "this creature can turn sideways and not worry about dying because of a blocker most of the time". Trample is definitely not that. As Duckay said, it can be seen as a pseudo-evasion if only because the only thing that has "evasion" is the damage. And e...

Re: m15 Prerelease oddness

I managed to actually get a rare of each color, including a rare artifact to complete the cycle of 6, so I only had one on-color rare to go with my promo. Awful, but funny. As for mirror matches being a thing, I did not get that (I had Esper, though mostly UB). Instead all of my opponents basically ...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

So I ended up pulling Aggressive Mining from a prerelease victory pack. After staring at the card for a while, I feel very inclined to making a deck that can use it.

Am I looking towards red burn and the like? Maybe even storm might want something like this?

Yes. Any ability that begins with the words "when," "whenever," or "at," is a triggered ability.

Re: M15 Prerelease Experiences

The white promo made for a lot of angry players in 2HG. There's an immense feeling of despair when you get a team fown to 6 life or so, and then they just drop the angel and go right back up to 30. Maybe that was why so many games ended in a draw.

Re: M15 Prerelease Experiences

I helped judge for today's prerelease the entire day, which was a normal 1v1 event in the morning and then 2HG in the afternoon. I don't think much product was given out for 2HG with so many games going to overtime and eventually a draw; I think M14 gave out more prizes for 2HG if only because slive...

I think they learned their lesson after choosing, of all things, Scavenging Ooze to be one of the DotP promos. Pick someone cool and splashy but very likely not to make a big impact. Unless LSV is right about his rundown of the souls in his article and Soul of Zendikar becomes super relevant in cons...

The big article on the game claims you should be able to nab boosters through in-game battles. I'm assuming these little events that would award you said boosters are infrequent enough to make your collection take a very long time? Honestly, while it sounds like a big bummer that they ended up tryin...

Re: Making sunbond a thing.

Even aggro decks need ways to clear the path to the opponent's face or make sure your creatures actually stay alive to do anything. Hyperaggro decks don't care because they're fast enough to not make it necessary, but a deck like this that requires a bit of a set up takes long enough that you do nee...

You can just walk around a store during the prerelease and you're bound to pick one up off the ground or in the recycling bin. That's how I got all my prerelease Hero cards without actually having to participate.
