Re: Windows 8 vs Windows 7

In terms of the biggest jump from OS iteration to OS iteration, that's a toughie. Has to be between DOS -> Windows or Windows 3.11 -> Windows 95, right? Thoughts?

Just curious if people are starting to receive their prizes and such? I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of a Mario pocketwatch.

Re: Congratulations Graham & Kathleen!

Secret decoder rings don't count... besides Graham's power of taking forms of dairy products and Kathleen's of taking the shape of water-color painted balsa wood crafts aren't really impressive. You clearly haven't seen Kathleen's to-scale reproduction of the Titanic complete with movable figures o...

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread

The camera glitch video is now the very first Google result for "camera glitch", not just Youtube result, but actual Google result. It's also on the second page for "epic camera". Might just be because it's new, but I thought that was cool. Bear in mind that if you're signed int...

There is so much win in this thread, I don't think I can name all the things that made me laugh. I do believe this is an appropriate time to necro this image.

Re: Desert Bus 6 Appreciation Thread

Out of curiosity, do we know why Epic Camera Glitch went mini-viral? Did it get a reddit link or something? Obviously not the first time LRR has created a viral video, but I don't think there was a concerted effort on this one. :D

Re: Unofficial Desert Bus Challenges Conversation Thread OF

There's always such a strange feeling of loss as a viewer at the end of Desert Bus. If it only went 3 days, it would be a fun event. At 6 days, it becomes routine and then suddenly there isn't something to have on in the background when there's nothing else to watch or do. Soooooooo good. Thanks onc...

The Jester is correct about mIRC and I get tricked by it, too. Just click through, then wait a few seconds and click through again. No need to register anything for mIRC.

Re: Red Dwarf X

I agree it was a fine episode with some good laughs, but not my favorite. Lister's argument about whether he was hitting on the vending machine went on about 10 seconds too long, ditto for humping the other vending machine. They were funny gags, but they were played out almost as soon as they starte...

Re: Pocket Planes?! POCKET PLANES!!! UNOFFICIAL SKY CHAIRS H

FYI, my wife and I have recently joined SKY CHAIRS. Nagasaki is going to be tough since I started in Phoenix, but I'm working my way over there and I think I'll be able to get in 40 deliveries by the deadline. It looks like we're not going to hit Top 100 this time. Presumably a lot of the Asian team...

Re: LRRcast withdrawal?

Weird... I've tried kTorrent, Transmission, and Deluge, all with no success. It sounds like you're behind a firewall or two. Some ISPs will block all content to certain ports (8000's, I think?) and your router may be blocking all of the ports that you don't specifically unblock by default. Some goo...

Re: Movember, ...mitches?

That's why I use a double-edged razor, the blades are like 10 cents each so there's no excuse to use a dull one. Also, you can go against the grain, just go with the grain on the first pass - and possibly do an additional across-the-grain pass as well. Use hot water to shave and cold to rinse. The ...

Re: Well this is... a thing. (Disney buys Lucasfilm)

Anybody else wondering what Lucas is going to do with his time/money now? Slightly frightened? He's said repeatedly he wants to be able to focus on more creative, indie type films. He has all the money in the world to do whatever he pleases and it sounds like that's what he's going to do. As an exa...

Re: Well this is... a thing. (Disney buys Lucasfilm)

I'm pretty excited about this due to the aforementioned Marvel universe. Sure, there will probably be clunkers on their way to maximize their investment ($4 billion is a huge investment, even for Disney), but the overall impact has to be a positive. I would love to see something set hundreds of year...

New episode last night! How did people like it? I thought it was yet another winner and complete with furry aliens that didn't speak English (only they did speak English). I didn't really understand why they all died, however so if anyone had any insight it would be greatly appreciated.

Another hit this week. I have no idea where all the old school humor came from, but I look forward to it every week. It looks like this season's running gag is the callback. They can never top the moose callback (which practically had me rolling on the floor), but they're doing a great job with all ...

Speaking as a resident of a country that sold out to China long ago, I can tell you that my cheap blue jeans, aspirin and Samsung Galaxy S 2 are pretty sweet. It's a shame you're going to be getting on the bandwagon after the labor reform movement has started there. No heady days of 18 hour sweatsho...
