Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

So even MTGO wants me to write my novel, it seems. Tried a Theros Phantom Sealed, for the hell of it. Had an OK deck - not awesome or anything, but decent. I got utterly destroyed all three games - to the guy with Stormbreath Dragon on turn 4 all three games (I was playing red-black), to the guy wit...

Re: The depressing depression thread

At this point, I should probably make it clear that I am not myself a doctor, just someone who's had to live with (and help) someone suffering from chronic depression. So don't take any of the following advice as more than informed suggestions. 1-First, medication is the long-term solution for chron...

Re: The depressing depression thread

Are you seeing a real psychiatrist, Psycat? Treating depression is really difficult, and by and large generalists don't have the skills to do it. They'll treat the symptoms and ignore the root cause, or prescribe you something that doesn't work for you and just keep raising the dosage when it fails ...

And then the women-silhouettes doing the Caramelldansen. ... Seriously, the crew is custom-made for a Bond parody. You've got a James (a MI6 agent is kinda like a cop, right?), Paul as Q (obviously), Kathleen as the evil Bond Girl, Graham as the villain (seriously, Stark is a better villain name tha...

Re: Agents of SHIELD: Whadidyathink?

1-I realized today that this was just picked up for a full season. That being the case, I've lowered my expectations for the early episodes and have higher expectations for the second half of this season. 2-Whedonspeak is really, really getting on my nerves. It worked well in Buffy, but that was bec...

Re: The General Chat thread

So, let's say that after drivng three hours and doing an interview (which went well by the way), you had to drive three hours back home. And let's say that you were starting to feel sleepy an hour away from home. A good solution would be to pull over in a rest area and step out of the car for a few ...

So - on the job interview front, today is Reviewing Bankruptcy Law as it Pertains to the Collection of Delinquent Accounts by Fiscal Authorities Day.

It is EVERY BIT AS EXCITING AS IT SOUNDS!

Re: The General Chat thread

So I've got a job interview on Wednesday. I won't go into details about it, but it'd be an unbelievable success if I could get it. So wish me luck. :)

(Unfortunately, even if I get it, it'll be too late to get that T-Shirt tier. :(

Re: NaNoWriMo

As far as I'm concerned, doing an official NaNo project is good for starting you out on your way to writing. It's also good as a diagnostic tool - for instance, I tend to really, really overuse some construction, and that gets really easy to spot in a long stretch of non-edited writing. But the real...

NaNoWriMo

So... less than a month before the National Novel Writing Month. Is anyone else participating? What's your goal for this year? My project from two years ago fizzled (although I know where I went wrong) and last year I just forgot about it (I started on the 27th IIRC, so I just kept working through t...

Re: Agents of SHIELD: Whadidyathink?

So... Episode 2 was good enough that I'll watch Episode 3. The Good: At least, there's a reasonable amount of character evolution. Some other shows would drag on the loner hero bit for a season or three, but clearly Whedon prefers to have a more realistic evolution in his characters. There's also th...

Re: The Loading Ready Run Kickstarter

At this point it really depends on how well they can push the marketing on this. Jerry officially Kickfathering it on Penny Arcade could easily push the total way beyond the planned stretch goals in a single weekend, for instance.

Re: Sell me on D&D:Next

I could go into a long, long rant on why D&D Next is going to be terrible, but I'll limit myself to saying that so far (at the end of the public playtest) WotC doesn't have an actual game. They're thrown a ton of ideas at the wall, changed them at every iteration of the playtest, and so far they...

Re: Agents of SHIELD: Whadidyathink?

Watched it, and overall I'd say it was a somewhat weak spinoff-slash-pilot. It's not awful, but the characters (except for Coulson) are at best two-dimensionnal, and Generic McHero is one of the flattest, most boring protagonist I've ever seen. And the actor is a graduate of the Keanu Reeves School ...

Re: The Loading Ready Run Kickstarter

Very true. I was a bit sad with the concept of a final LRR season, but after listening to the Q&A on Twitch, it's pretty obvious that the team really wants to do the other projects more, and that the weekly videos are beginning to be more of a chore/hurdle than an enjoyable experience. Having be...

Re: The Loading Ready Run Kickstarter

Chipped in my tiny, tiny little amount. Unemployment sucks. :( Can't say I'm not sad about the end of the weekly videos, but this is certainly the right way to end the weekly sketches. Question: does that mean the official end of Commodore Hustle? Or would it continue on an irregular schedule along ...

That was really, really interesting. I wish we could have seen the draft (because I find that the most entertaining part, usually) but this was very educational for me. It's an interesting idea, and something I would watch more of. A couple of notes, however. 1-It's interesting (and enjoyable for us MtG addicts), but it's not funny. So I'm wondering if it's really a good idea to have that directly on the front page. That could potentially be a turn off for new view...
