Re: Atlas Shrugged: The Movie

That's an excellent review. I think "Sociopathic idealized nerds collapse society because they don’t get enough hugs." is my new favourite description of Rand's philosophy. Thanks! "Well we have infinite energy and anyone can do anything they want. There's no scarcity of food, water,...

Re: Atlas Shrugged: The Movie

atlas shrugged has some of the most wooden prose i've ever read, the characters are practically cardboard cutouts and the 'villains' are embarrassing caricatures. the book is awful from both a literary and philosophical perspective, so idk if it's the actors or the material they were forced to work ...

Re: Atlas Shrugged: The Movie

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8MVFoiw-dw It's sort of amazing how "i dont want my men working and possibly dying on an untested railway" is portrayed as an irrational opinion to have, and we're meant to sympathize with the psychopath protagonist I can't wait for this movie to bomb becaus...

Re: Transocean Gives Bonuses for Best Safety Year for Gulf Spill

Idk where else to post this A BP employee lost a laptop containing personal data belonging to thousands of Louisiana residents who filed claims for compensation after the Gulf oil spill, a company spokesman said Tuesday. The laptop was password-protected, but the information was not encrypted , Thom...

Re: Venting Thread Beta

Dear girls that are my friends, If you are in between 95-120lbs, I'm going to need you to stop posting status updates about how fat you are. It's annoying. Logic says if you weigh that little you are obviously NOT fat. It's making me question your mental health or motives. this has happened so ofte...

Re: Venting Thread Beta

There are unquestionably biases inherent in our treatment of men and women, And both are victimized by it, in different ways. Patriarchal culture certainly informs these biases. But the solution is not to frame the discussion in a way that patronizes men any more than it is to frame it in terms tha...

Re: Venting Thread Beta

it is strange that when talking about 'reverse sexism' it seems like the only case anyone ever brings up is men being more likely to lose custody and I feel like people latch onto this because there's literally so few examples to pull from but it's enough for them to compare the levels of misogyny a...

CONTROVERSY AHEAD: On the weekend, a young woman in town was brutally gang-raped. She was taken by four attackers, stuffed in a car, assaulted repeatedly, and then dumped on the street. She's alive and recovering, and the case is being investigated, though there's not much to go on. Let me be absol...

Re: 8.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Japan

Comparing this with the response to the BP spill is amazing, they're actually cycling workers to minimize the amount of exposure whereas we literally had people picking up toxic trash without protective gear so it wouldn't look as bad lol
