Re: The Book of Passwords

I'm catching up with the Actraiser replay now. I adore this game and it's a lot of fun watching Jer play it. It made me think of the Yoot Tower stream Beej did a little bit, and then I realized I would love to see a Jer+Beej crossover stream in which they play something along these lines, city-build...

Re: Mardu Goblins Commander

Memo has basically covered my Krenko decklist, except I have a little more focus on setting my goblins on fire and flinging them at the enemy than actually attacking with them. His list is missing the mother of all goblin wincons (besides just turning sideways): Goblin War Strike. I don't think I've...

Re: TTC - Journey Into Nyx Flavour & Origins

There are a couple other loose references but I think you picked out the strongest ones. The Gluttonous Cyclops references the cyclops of the Odyssey who devoured things in a similar manner, but most cyclopses in this set were coming back to that in one way or another. Hyponotic Siren is kind of a d...

Primal Vigor is the third token-doubling enchantment. It's "fixed" doubling season.

Re: Cascade commander deck

Look into mana dorks for your mana issues. The stealing-stuff subtheme is cute, but I think you could take out some of the more expensive and edge-case ones, like spelljack (no counterspells in cascade) and Chancellor of the Spires (cute, but Diluvian Primoridial does it better and is easy to cast)....

Re: Epic Struggle

Emmara Tandris gives you access to the white mass-token-producers, but so does Ghave. The black in Ghave is kind of meh in this deck concept, give or take a couple of zombie token engines. My partner has an Emmara Tandris deck that she calls "autopilot", because it's basically a bunch of u...

Re: The Limited thread

Khans might be my favorite draft format since MMA, not counting Conspiracy (which is always going to top the list). It's brilliantly interactive and syngeristic. I've been really enjoying Jeskai and Temur, and particularly combining the two of them. For example, take Bloodfire Expert . This is a ver...

I've had generally good luck with Temur, and Green facepunching in general. Blue provides great support but I definitely need the meat of other colors to give the blue stuff to do.

This is definitely in my top 5 favorite feed dumps. I haven't seen Cam savor blithering stupidity like that since Prayer Warriors, and the stinger was a fantastic work of timing and wordplay.

I'm going to try to get in some draft. I don't think Khans is as engaging as a sealed format, and I haven't had time to draft it in paper.

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk

Prossh is fun, you can go a lot of different ways. I went straight-up devour/dragons and threw in Thromok and such. I also found a couple of the kobold lords (the cheap ones anyways) to make all my kobolds frikken' amazing. I would go looking for Dragon Broodmother, Skullmulcher, and Preyseizer Drag...

Permanently under opponent's control. Tabak has answered this one on tumblr. The text on Towershell says "returns under your control" not "under owner's control". So, act of treason A+ sideboard tech against the towershell.

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk

I'm thinking yes probably to palinchron, not as inclined toward capsize due to the fun police issue. Upwelling is a good rec, I actually genuinely did not know that effect existed as an enchantment. Again, everyone having more mana is much less of an issue if I can get more value out of mine.

Re: Eleven Secret Herbs and Spices: Theme Decks

Ahh goblins. I also have a goblin commander deck. It is very different from Zedruu. It is very definitely designed to win. I generally only pull it out if I want to be mean. The premise of the deck is that, with Krenko as commander, I produce and arbitrarily large number of goblins, but I rarely att...

Re: Eleven Secret Herbs and Spices: Theme Decks

well, there's DtN of course, and all the Parley cards ultimately benefit you though they do give everyone a draw. Maze's end is an actual wincon, though I don't know if you have the gates to win with it. The black cards are also generally meaner than my deck goes, but then again I stayed away from b...

Re: Eleven Secret Herbs and Spices: Theme Decks

I like yours, but it has a couple of cards that I looked at and went "...no, that works too much in my favor" when I was building this crazy thing. When I said it's not designed to win, I meant it. Personal favorite recent addition is Timesifter. Whatever the rules text says, what it actua...

Re: Eleven Secret Herbs and Spices: Theme Decks

It's not designed to win, it's designed to make everyone else's game much more interesting. That sounds a lot like my Fun for Everyone deck. Got a decklist handy? :) I didn't, but I realized I should anyways, so now I do. 1 Zedruu the Greathearted 1 Mana Cache 1 Psychic Battle 1 Master Warcraft 1 C...

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk

4 is a pretty piddlesome number for what I have in mind, and Animar straight buffs my hydras. It might as well say they get an extra +1/+1 counter for each of his +1/+1 counters. Rosheen is still worth including as a mana dork, but I don't think she does what I want as a commander. Also Mind Spring ...

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk

Magus of the Candelabra and Galvanic Alchemist are great, I totally forgot about those kinds of effects. Vorinclex might be a little too "fun police" for my taste, and I thought long and hard about Omnath. He's pricey and I'm still not sure only getting the green is worth it.

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk

So Animar. Actually let me back up. I have an idea for a deck I call "The X-Factor." Basically, Animar as commander, and then load up on big ramp and x-cost spells. RUG is a good combo for that, with fireball and all its cousins in red, near-infinite card draw in blue, and hydras in green....

gods, which one. There's my most Johnny-ish 60-card technically Modern-legal deck, the Undead Alchemist. Look him up, and Lich Lord of Unx. You'll figure out what it does pretty quickly. Of course my best example is my Zedruu commander deck. There's a lot of ways to do a Zedruu deck. I call mine &qu...

Oh man, you have YEARS of broken cards to catch up on, don't you. Check out Tarmogoyf and Jace the Mind Sculpter for a real dose of "What were they thinking ?!" Anyways a straight read of the cards involved says that the "source" of the damage would in fact be the obliterator its...

Re: Uphill both ways, in Snow-Covered Mountains

Depends who you want to play with. I keep an incidental modern-legal deck around, and sometimes I come up with an idea worth turning into a standard deck. Most of my 60-card decks are not competitive-legal, or if they are it's in vintage and they would immediately lose. I just don't play in your av...

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk

It hasn't come up yet, but among my play group we have a standing house rule that "legendary" is functional errata on the nephilim and they just haven't updated gatherer yet. My sense is that most playgroups are like that, especially with the new(er) legend rules making it very nearly irre...
