Re: The depressing depression thread

I've really been struggling lately. There are many factors playing into it, but chief in my mind right now is my inability to figure out what I want to be doing with my life. I feel like that is in and of itself a major failure, like at 26 I should have already got this sorted and either be in schoo...

Re: Heroes Unlimited Play By Post?

I'm still looking to acquire some more players, and at this point they'll be added into the action after we start. If need be, I'll bring them up to speed in their own thread before they join the primary action, and of course, their character creation will not take place in a way that would interfer...

Riku also gives you Followed Footsteps and other such blue creature clone magic in addition to the ability to duplicate your token producing instants and sorceries. Not a bad way to go, I think.

Re: Canada queation

I read recently that US citizens that live in other countries are still taxed as normal by the US government, unless they renounce their US citizenship. Based on that alone, you may find moving to Seattle more cost-effective than moving to Victoria. =P The ferry is one way to get from Seattle to Vic...

Commander damage is unique to each commander regardless of who controls. You can be killed by commander damage from your own commander, and if your commander's being passed around, each person could hit you with it in turn to achieve that total. I was going to suggest the Vows, but you already have ...

Re: Epic Struggle

Black also adds Tombstone Stairwell, which is a decent way to gain creatures if you can pair it with some way to make all your creatures indestructible. Eldrazi Monument; Mycosynth Lattice + Darksteel Forge; Elspeth, Knight-Errant; or Avacyn, Angel of Hope are all the methods I can think of off the ...

Alternatively, if you get email notifications when you receive PMs, they should contain a link that takes you directly to the message. No looking for tiny text on the bottom of the page that way. =)

Re: Heroes Unlimited Play By Post?

Oh, I almost forgot! Omnicrat, you get to select two of your skills from the list you posted to be your Areas of Expertise. These skills are exempt from the normal skill cap, able to exceed 100% proficiency. While this doesn't mean you automatically succeed on those rolls, it does mean that if you'r...

To Omnicrat: With an IQ like that, you may have graduated university with your second doctorate around the time other people your age were graduating high school. =P High IQ offers a skill proficiency bonus of +2% at 16 and +1% per point above that, so an IQ of 32 gives you +18% proficiency in all s...

Re: Heroes Unlimited Play By Post?

Well, first, are you wanting to go with Super Bouncing and Immovability to start, or Super Bouncing and Impact Resistance? Because most votes seem to have been in favor of the first campaign idea, I'd like to keep everyone at two powers to start, then have them pick up more as the game progresses. T...

Re: Heroes Unlimited Play By Post?

For most of your stats, Omnicrat, you'll follow the standard 3d6 with bonus rolls method. The exception is your IQ, of course - your powers mean that you have a starting IQ of 22, to which you'll add 1d6. Because we're using the exploding d6 method for other stats, we'll do that here, too - if you r...

Re: Heroes Unlimited Play By Post?

There's still a matter of your character's education, which determines the skills that are available to you. Was your character raised on crime, or were you inducted after going to school for some years? Other than your skill with guns, is there anything you see your character being particularly pro...

Re: Heroes Unlimited Play By Post?

So based on your PP stat, you get +4 on rolls to strike, parry, or dodge. Based on your Speed stat, you're capable of running the 105 meters in 15 seconds. Based on your physical beauty, you can attempt to charm or impress someone with a 50% base chance of success. The average roll on 3d6 is around ...

Re: Heroes Unlimited Play By Post?

I usually roll them sequentially, which is why I mentioned the free boost to 15 for your PP. You can do the pool of rolls method if you'd like, and if you do, you'll have to live with what you roll. Does that seem fair?

Re: Heroes Unlimited Play By Post?

Did you want to expound on your background a bit? Where they're from, what kind of education they have, any interesting personality traits? You could also roll your stats, if you'd like - 3d6, and if the total result is 16, 17, or 18, roll another d6 and add that to the total. If the extra die resul...

I'm aiming for four to five players. JackSlack appears to have just been dropping by to comment, and DoktorNik expressed an interest as well. He hasn't been back to start discussing character ideas, though.

Re: Heroes Unlimited Play By Post?

There is a minor power named Extraordinary Intelligence that could apply for this purpose, and Multitasking could be usef...

You only really have to choose between the two initially; later on, you can get the other if you feel so inclined. =)

Would you want both the customized grip and the training bonus/penalty, or just the customized grip?

Re: Heroes Unlimited Play By Post?

Fair enough. As I say, it can certainly be done, and as the most clearly vampire-related powers are either at the Major or Mega-Hero power levels. The Shapechanger major power would be what you're looking for here, I think. The only thing it doesn't do is replicate the voice (but it provides a +15% ...

A shapeshifter capable of assuming a variety of forms, or just in the sense of a were-creature? @Ix - If it turns out that the powers you're interested in having can only be replicated as a major ability, then we can treat it as the direction your character will evolve in. There isn't a really clear delineation between the two, other than major abilities are clearly more powerful than minor on...

Re: Heroes Unlimited Play By Post?

As I say, if anyone has an idea or concept for a character, I can help you realize it in game form, explaining along the way some of the various options both for initial design and for advancement. In my opinion, this is the ideal method for someone who is interested in playing and doesn't own the b...
