Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge

Oh god. OH GOD. Yeah, good point, Korvys. Going out of my way to at least include the word 'cause' there so that the sort of combo you're describing is impossible. The points are what determine the winner of the league. And why one for infinite combos? Well, the red achievements are meant to stop th...

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge

This may be the hardest question I've ever asked here. And I'm glad the topic is "Ask a Judge" rather than "Ask a rules question". I'm running a Commander league and we're between seasons. The most difficult to word achievement is one designed to penalise Infinite Combos. My curr...

I do note she's not an ally. That's unfortunate given she slots really well into B/W Vampire Ally life gain.

Re: Design a Card

Alright, one more try. Fblthp of the Unknown Spark Planeswalker, 3UU, starts on 4 Loyalty +1 Draw two cards. Shuffle Fblthp of the Unknown Spark into his owner's library. -2 Exile target creature. At the beginning of your next upkeep, return it to the battlefield. -5 Exile all permanents. Randomly s...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

See, I'm kind of the reverse, Antitonic. I've loved BfZ draft, but I've still had to work up energy to do it because... well, it's kind of an empty money sink given how woeful BfZ constructed has been. You pay your money and wind up with just no cards you can do anything with. As such, I was plannin...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

So it seems Oath of the Gatewatch is going to be, deliberately, the Two-Headed Giant set. How do we feel about this?

Re: The Magic Venting Thread

It's not even so much Jace. Not on his own.

It's the dominance of Jace, PLUS the sidekick Gideon cost, PLUS the cost of land.

I'm actually choosing to abstain from Standard right now until at least Shadows and maybe until the set after that.

Re: The Magic Venting Thread

Ferfucksake. If the only Eldrazi in your deck is Ulamog, you do not get to call your deck an 'Eldrazi deck'. Lookin' at you, Melissa DeTora. Lookin' at you, Michael Majors. You get a pass, Minh Nguyen. Good for you. These may all be good decks, but the idea that putting a single Eldrazi in it makes ...

Re: Design a Card

The eternal question of 'feature or bug'? ;) To me, if the ultimate can go off without some cheating, it's not Fblthp. He's meant to be the deadly joke character; seemingly useless until you suddenly go, "OH. He can do THAT." Edit: Note, this is me saying, "Yeah, probably not a workab...

Re: Design a Card

Fair enough. Bridge too far, I guess. (A pity, since it was exactly that idea that lead me to the design.) (Also: Proliferate, Doubling Season, many, many ways to activate it.)

Edit: Oh and SHOOT. Meant that to be 3UU, not 3BB. Duh. That at least deals with the draw thing.

Re: Design a Card

JackSlack, 100% not happening in black border. You could have the start of an Un-walker though. Not even in a Commander precon? You've got a bit more scope for goofy silliness there and I don't think anything in there is truly broken; I'd consider 3BB for draw 2 to be overcosted by one. The second ...

Re: Shadow over Innistrad Announced for April 2016

If he kills someone close to Liliana and she destroys him for it, I'll count that as an excellent resolution. It ties it up nicely.

Re: Design a Card

Goddammit. So I got a weird idea in my brain. The idea is that this would be released in a Commander set, with art showing Fblthp staring shocked at the viewer while a mirage of planar images float behind him. Edit note: Changed mana cost to 3UU from 3BB; while my original intention, absolutely a mi...

Re: Shadow over Innistrad Announced for April 2016

I question 'villain'. Monster, yes. But at this point he seems to have so little personal volition that he's basically a force of nature, and I see him as a full on bad guy these days. I would not count out the idea of them killing Garruk, either. He seems to me a character they're no longer much in...

Re: Shadow over Innistrad Announced for April 2016

I just want two things:

1. A legendary Werewolf.
2. A resolution on the Garruk/Liliana plot
3. Boilerplate Fblthp request. ;)

And I don't want:

1. Jace, my least favourite MTG character.
