Re: Progenitus EDH

Yeah, you'll need a lot more ramp, and the tough thing about Progenitus is it all needs to be colored. I'd run the full cycle of Signets, Kodama's Reach and Cultivate, etc.

Re: Modern deck - help needed

If you have any more white fetchlands, you should be fine for color fixing while still running some colorless lands. I typically run ~8-9 fetches, though.

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

I'm surprised Pernicious Deed didn't make the cut mainboard, and I feel like the deck has a bit much on the high-end (although Sol Ring, Golgari Signet, Dark Ritual, and Birthing Pod all halp out a bit there), but obviously it worked out well enough.

Re: First legacy deck (home brewed)

I meant cards like Phantasmagorian to pitch your hard, not actually just running a dredge deck. Using Dredge to get Phantasmagorian into the GY.

Re: First legacy deck (home brewed)

How do you plan to actually cast Demigod of Revenge? I don't see enough fast mana. And I think you'd be better off using the dredge engine to run through your deck.

Re: Cube idea.

Yep, color imbalance would be a thing, but as was suggested, finding and adding Elspeth vs. Tezzeret could fix that. That said, I'm not convinced the colors would be balanced (for gameplay). Green and red seem like they'd be rather weak, due to the elves and goblins adding in tribal archetypes that ...

Re: Looking for SF/Fantasy book recommendations

If you have time and attention to invest (lots of it), I'd highly recommend Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. It's a humorous book with sci-fi elements to it (although, in my opinion, it just barely qualifies as sci-fi, but I really enjoyed it, as someone who personally is a big fan of sci-fi)....

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

I've been having fun with Butcher of the Horde/Bloodsoaked Champion shenanigans. It's a great way to make the Champion relevant after it's been outclassed on board. Play Butcher, sac Champion, haste, swing. (can't bring the Champion back, I'm typically tapped out.) Next turn, swing Butcher, bring ba...

Yeah, but the moment you play one or the other, you're getting focused like nothing else.

Still, it never hurts to have alternate wincons. Just make sure you hold onto them until you can use them both to win right away.

Re: Maralen Tableflip

Even with Maralen, I'd still run some number of Demonic Tutor, Diabolic Revelation, and Liliana Vess, even if only to get the boots. Imagine getting to Diabolic Revelation for Ob Nix, Greaves, and Boots, and then, the next turn have the entire lock set up and protected. Also, I'd consider Defense Gr...

There was a thread a while back, here's my post from it (top five from each season/all-time): Season One: - Door to Door - The Mirror - Joe's Used Cars - Quantum Documentary - Andy, Esq. Season Two: - The Danger of Cigarettes - Slow News Day - The James Masterson School for Dictatorial Improvement -...

Re: Custom cards - Playability assessment

It's colorless so it can go in any deck, and lands are harder than enchantments to destroy. 2 mana and instant speed make them way too oppressive as chump blockers, IMO.

Re: Brewing a weird mono red modern deck

I feel like the deck is better served just cutting the rituals and Burn at the Stake and running Goblin Bushwhacker over Burn at the Stake, since you'll be getting largely the same effects for far less mana and also far fewer dead cards.

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

If your looking for cards to explicitly feed the next in either case, you're playing bad Magic, because you're just drawing cards to help you draw more cards. Treasure Cruise and Dig don't NEED to be delved for the full amount I'll often gladly pay 2-3 mana for a Cruise to avoid hitting my own Goyf ...

Re: Custom cards - Playability assessment

I think you're way over complicating this:

Kessig Chicken Coop
Land - Rare
T: Add 1 to your mana pool.
3, T: Put a 0/1 white Chicken creature token onto the battlefield. Activate this ability only as a sorcery.

Re: What month would you rather do NaNoWriMo in?

Yeah, I'm thinking I'm gonna miss NaNoWriMo this year, just because I'm like 30K words into a book I'm currently working on an don't want to lose focus. I really should start explicitly assigning time in each day to work on it, I did like half of the writing last NaNoWriMo, and the rest has been slo...

Re: Let's NOPE pre-voting

Now that I've played it for a bit, I have to say, I'd love to see Alien: Isolation. It's the only horror game I've played that has implemented FPS elements without diminishing the horror. Knowing that loud combat can bring the unkillable Alien works quite well as a detractor.
