Re: UK Election

Vote cast. Now we play the waiting game. One thing that would have solved many of the problems with the voting system was AV, which was a brilliant idea. Unfortunately, the "No to AV" campaign was given loads of money and was therefore allowed to spread blatant, fear-mongering lies everywh...

Re: UK Election

I just wanted to interject that, yes, because of the way UK's voting system works it might not immediately have an impact if you vote for a party and they don't win in that district. That said, it does have the possibility of showing that the current system is undemocratic, as the results don't act...

Re: UK Election

And now, a wall of quotes. I stand corrected. Evidently not as up on politics as I thought I was. It's a fairly common misconception that's been banded about a lot in the media since the 2001 election, possibly encouraged due to the 1997 election having seen a somewhat lower turnout than the 1992 el...

Re: UK Election

As a resident of a marginal constituency, I'm rather obligated to vote, as my vote is disproportionately important (First-past-the-post being what it is). Turnout for the generals has been reducing with each election No it hasn't In fact turnout has been increasing since 2001 (you may recall there w...

Re: Star Wars the Old Republic

Well, double-XP week is over. Normality returns.

I'll probably be online in a couple of hours, if anyone is interested.

Re: Star Wars the Old Republic

I have played a character to 50, a character to 3x and 26. So maybe I find these side-quests sometimes a bit, unexciting. Also a long MMO career. Fair enough. After having encountered Taris on the republic side of things (which seems to be fetch-quest capital of the galaxy) I may be starting to see...

Re: Star Wars the Old Republic

I used to hate out leveling planets. But after the nth "Imperial Soldier sucks at its job" quest, I now enjoy out leveling. Means I can do the interesting storyline quests. I welcome our temporary double EXP overlords. I dunno. Maybe it's because I never played that far into it last time ...

Re: Star Wars the Old Republic

Well, we have a double XP week going, which should help with the levelling for people.
I'll likely be online around 7:30-8pm on the Imperial side this evening (Uk time), in case anyone wants join-up.

Re: Star Wars the Old Republic

I am potentially online 5pm -> 11pm Weekdays. Depends on my interest in playing. I annoyingly had to log off when someone logged on before. I've yet chatted. UK time, yes? If so I'm in similar potential hours, although Friday evenings I can go later. Yeah, I think that might have been me; I seem to...

Re: Star Wars the Old Republic

Something that occurs to me (after having had a few times where I've logged-in just as someone else is logging off) is that it might be worth getting some idea of what times people are going to be online.

Re: Star Wars the Old Republic

I also have a Jedi Knight named Pala'Mor, she's level 10 and just about to head to Coruscant. Oh, and my Skype is Nintarie, if people want to chat/voice chat while gaming! Okay, I'll keep an eye out. I have cleared both the [Heroic 2] quests* so if those aren't repeatable I may not be too much ...

Re: Star Wars the Old Republic

I'm re-installing Origin and ToR after reformatting my computer today. I'm only level 2 so far, but have been itching to get back onto my char and keep leveling, which is a good sign to me. Sounds good. Let me know when you get to Dromand Kaas and feel like doing any of the heroics. Sith: Farquenis...

Re: Gaming General Chat Thread

I'm actually dreading the new Deus Ex. The choice to make it so none of the endings to HR were canon is almost as bad as Invisible Wars choice to make every ending from DX1 canon. I worry that a returning protagonist is going to change the conspiracy tone of the game. Jensen has already seen beneat...

Re: Star Wars the Old Republic

So how's everyone been getting on? I've managed to get off the starting planets over the long weekend, but not got more than halfway through the seconds on either character. Also turns out I'd forgotten how much of a pain Coruscant's datacrons can be. One thing I have noticed is that I've been havin...

Re: The depressing depression thread

So the PC port for GTA V is being released in a few days, and the group of friends I talk to the most have all gotten it, and I'm genuinely not that interested in the game.... so why do I have to feel so bad about the fact that I won't take part in playing it? Well, because all your friends will be...

Re: Star Wars the Old Republic

Ah, Trooper. Should've mentioned that. Huh, guess I should probably roll a republic side alt in that case. Which would also help ensure that my agent doesn't get too far ahead of the people planning on maining Imperials. EDIT: and done; Smuggler captain Kiamina is now up and running. Because appare...

Re: Episode suggestions

If I might make an anime suggestion, given the podcast's emphasis on setting details, From the New World might be quite interesting. It is in the same camp as Never Let Me Go * in that it's about young adults but not really a YA work, but it's near enough that you could get away with it without bend...

Re: IDDQ Social awareness and privilage discussion

And I really don't think focusing on the specific instances is missing the forest for the trees, because at the end of the day the forest is a collection of trees. To elaborate on what I said before: a lot of specific instances of equality are themselves symptomatic of society-wide inequality and p...

Re: Star Wars the Old Republic

I'll roll sometime. My friend from Spain is visiting until Wednesday so understandably I want to spend every free moment being a socialite. Fair enough. I played a little before realising I was on The Harbinger, so restarted on The Ebon Hawk. Character name Teica, if that means anything. :P What cl...

Re: IDDQ Social awareness and privilage discussion

I think the point of 'raising awareness' of social privilege is an educational one. It helps to be aware of your own privilege because that can help you make more informed decisions on the subjects it relates to and act as a check against you acting like a chungus due to your own ignorance. E.g. der...

Re: Star Wars the Old Republic

So how would you all feel about leveling all together on a new server? Any thoughts as to which? I imagine we'd to want an English Language one, and, while I can't speak for anyone else, personally I'd prefer not to go for a PVP server so that means we'd be looking at one of the North American serv...
