Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread
hey all. i am playing a modern GPT in a few weeks and my modern experience is quite small. I am working on the deck and was wondering what are some of the obvious sideboard cards for a modern deck. or to put it another way what are some of the common archetypes in modern that i will need an answer f...

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge
working on some ideas for a modern B/R splash white vampire deck. what would happen if i flicker malakir bloodwitch and all my other guys with legions initiative. will i get anything off of the ETB trigger at the start of combat. as they all come back in together. so i guess the question is does it ...

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge
nope. you have to discard in your cleanup step if hold more than 7 cards and the rule is 514.3. Normally, no player receives priority during the cleanup step, so no spells can be cast and no abilities can be activated. However, this rule is subject to the following exception: 514.3a At this point, t...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread
what do you guys think of primeval bounty. re-working my jund deck and i am torn on this card. it obviously does nothing the turn it comes down but i can ramp into it with gyre sages and i think its a good card to get you back to a board presence after a wrath effect hits. i also heavily use counter...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread
seems to me the plan is , chip away at his life 2 at a time with guttersnipe while you counter all their stuff. . electromancer gives that plan a boost and then finish off with aetherling. personally i would take out Arcane Melee, stolen identity, last thoughts and Stolen Goods the cipher cards make...

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge
yo judges. the rulings on a corpsejack menace state "If a creature you control would enter the battlefield with a number of +1/+1 counters on it, it enters with twice that many instead." so what would happen if i play savage summoning before the menace. the double counter effect on the men...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread
As much as I hate Jace, Memory Adept (and I do) I don't think it's really that big a deal. Honestly he didn't get a tonne of play in my experiment in M13 compared to Taimyo or little Lilly. He's a powerful Mill engine but there's so much aggro in the format right now that going "Jace, pass&quo...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread
ok then i really have to say WHAT THE FUCK WOTC. was someone asleep at the wheel when you decided to reprint Jace memory adept. i can see standard being totally miserable against control post M14. i can see decks with nothing but counter spells, 4 jaces and 4 Aetherlings and its going to be miserabl...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread
so no dual lands in M14 and a strong hint that theros will have sweet duals. def want to be running MAX 2 color decks in M14 limited. really itching for the full set to be spoiled so i can get in some drafts on cockatrice. also if i am reading the new planeswalker rule correctly than jace memory ade...

Re: MTG Getting To Know You
i mainly play paper magic but will do the occasional mtgo draft if cant get to my store. been playing since avacyn restored but i have only been taking magic seriously since gatecrash. i play constructed every friday at fnm and draft every second wednesday. i play on cockatrice a lot to test decks a...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread
for M14 i am doing something that James suggested on the LR podcast. I am doing my own card evaluation as they are spoiled and writing down my thoughts and giving each card a rating and then seeing how that compares to the 'experts' as it were.
i can def feel its a worthwhile exercise.

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread
so yeah went over the preview cards last night and yeah they really are "spelling out" some of the synergies and combos in this set. the lifegain/angels archetype looks pretty sweet atm. also that hydra who enters with 4 +1/+1 counters that doubles his counters and all other counters when ...

Re: The Limited thread
had my best draft in quite a long while at the LGS last night. RTR block. pack 1 was meh, took a gruul war chant and then get 'passed' a steam vents. pick up some solid green cards like thrashing mossdog so was sticking with RUG. open pack 2 , friggin Boros Reckoner :D took him but didn't want to sp...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread
i have had some to think and maybe she is a little better than i first thought. if you +1 her the turn she comes down and then 0 on the next turn at the start of your main then i can see the value there.
also think i want to stick to 2 colors if i am playing her.

thoughts on the new chandra http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=143489&d=1372651225 i dont like it personally. the +1 is slightly better than the last version of her, but that 0 ability does not seem that great to me. sure you can get lucky and draw something relevent to y...

Re: DotP 2014

Re: Bioshock Infinite
just finished it. really enjoyed it and the story and ending was really well written. i agree with most people that the combat is nowhere near the level of Bioshock 1. Bioshock 1 had much more room for experimenting and variety with the weapons and plasmids. the vigors and weapons in infinite felt l...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread
Why I dislike Modern Masters drafts... This is Kenji's (Twitch: numotthenummy) deck from earlier. This is an amazing deck. Astounding. He lost in round 1. The variance in how any one game of this format goes is so far beyond any regular format http://i.imgur.com/H7RblJ1.jpg holy crap if i drafted t...
