Re: The Limited thread

So if I save up a whole bunch and win cube 8-4's I can get SOME very limited value back out since the old sets are normally only worth like 1.5ish to the bots. yeah, that makes up for the 150% increase in price. Yeah it's kind of like if phantom events were a super-highway leading towards Valuetown...

Re: The Limited thread

You do actually get packs for Cube drafts, at least the single elimination ones. Both players who make the finals get a draft set of the current old format that shows up with the cube (this upcoming time it's Ravnica block) and some Phantom points. So there is a way to turn a bunch of phantom ticket...

Re: The Limited thread

I have found the secret to M14 draft! It's a simple 3-step process that follows... Step 1- Open Jace Step 2- Play Jace Step 3- Win But seriously, this was by far the easiest 3-0 (6-0) I can remember. Some luck for sure as I resolved Jace 3 times (once each round) and opponents scooped soon after, an...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Why is the horse a rare? It has no reason being rare. I love it's flavor, but hate that it's going to be taking up a rare slot. It should have been common solely so we could get a LRR draft that ends with a deck with like 5 of them and tries to win solely off of them. But yeah, another awesome flav...

Re: The Limited thread

Been taking a bit of a break from M14 the last couple weeks (actually did a few AVR drafts instead) but came back to it tonight and 6-0d with this deck. I started towards the Black/Red sacrifice deck but shifted gears when red wasn't that open but green was as I got passed both Witchstalkers in the ...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Love how they have spells to reference certain myths. I mean, look at this one. http://www.mtgoacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/cJYRmUzeacB_EN_LR.jpg I can't wait to see the boar tokens. Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Underworld Cerberus is insane, and I'm not even necessarily talking power-wise (although it does seem strong). The flavor is just awesome, not being able to be blocked except by 3 or more creatures, graveyards not being able to be targeted, and having all the dead creatures come back if it dies, jus...

Re: The Limited thread

Not sure if people have seen it or not, but along with the announcement of the MMA Mondays, it also seems Wizards is letting the people decide with older draft format gets paired with cube in the week right before the next new set comes out (Rise of the Eldrazi for instance right before M14 hit). Re: The Limited thread

3-0'd with this deck tonight. I actually started 1st picking Nightmare thinking of trying out mono-black, then 2nd-picked a Howl of Nightpack and thought of maybe trying the mono-green deck Brian Wong has talked about on LR. But in the end neither ended up making the deck. Instead I got a sweet Blue...

Re: The Limited thread

Drafted this just now, Black/Red heavy removal (2 Black Deadly Recluses!). Won first round easily despite some lousy play on my part in game 1 that nearly cost me it and my round 2 opponent had some bad luck and mulled to 4 first game and never recovered. I was feeling quite good about the deck... u...

Re: The Limited thread

Just 3-0'd with this deck, it was a solid deck but nothing super-special. However it proved just how insane Planeswalkers are in Limited, even "not great" ones. Liliana just gets so out of hand if left unchecked. You just keep +1ing her and getting all your swamps and then suddenly you can...

Re: So that just happened (funny MTG stories)

So this happened during an M14 Prerelease Draft I did, I call it "Eggs Meet Basket"... http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/1762/4mm8.png That is an Awaken the Ancient with both Mark of the Vampire and Lightning Talons which ended the game with me at 85 life after it turned into basically a ...

Re: The Limited thread

After a very disappointing 1-2 Green/White attempt at a Slivers deck earlier today, I 3-0'd my next draft with this deck. I thought I was going to be 3 colors most of the way, but cutting green entirely just seemed much better. I really thought the mana would be a problem with all the double and tri...

Re: The Limited thread

My first M14 draft was a fairly good one. 2-1 with a heavy green deck with a few black cards, losing in the finals. Highlights of my deck were what I'm calling the Marshall Special, Triple Doom Blade (1 Doom Blade and 2 Deadly Recluse), as well as triple Advocate of the Beast and triple Rumbling Bal...

Re: The Limited thread

My 4th and final RoE draft. I was actually going to stop after 3 to save the rest of my tickets for the M14 prerelease and release, but got bored and thought I guess I can get one more Rise in and still have enough tickets for M14. My greed paid off, I opened Splinter Twin pack 1 and Vengevine (the ...

Re: The Limited thread

My first attempt at an RoE draft. Now I wasn't playing Magic when this was out, so it was completely new, although I did do a bunch of research before, reading some articles, checking out LSV's complete set review, and watching Kenji do a couple drafts. I thought this deck was really bad (I tried to...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Also, I always thought that Fblthp (Totally Lost) was too expensive and couldnt figure out why people thought it was so good and now I see Time ebb (2U put target creature on top of its owners library Sorcery) and think "yeah that is more what I would play" I know that totally lost can ge...

Re: The Limited thread

This was my most recent DGR draft deck. Went kind of deep although the mana ended up being quite good, to the point that I almost always ended up siding out a forest for a spell (either a Gruul War Chant or Maze Behemoth usually). I ended up losing in the finals in game 3 when my opponent tapped out...

Re: Draft record 10--- Swiss, 10-- 4-3-2-2 10--- 8-4

http://i39.tinypic.com/ruttu8.png I really don't like how unbalanced the pay out is. I just sold 5 dragonsmaze to buy two RTR Yeah, I wish they could have a setup where in a DGR block draft you win X amount of "DGR Booster", which could be used for any of the 3 packs to enter a draft or t...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

(Double-post, ahoy!) So, how many people are going to do the 11th anniversary sealed event on mtgo? It ends on tonight's scheduled maintenance. It's an 11-booster phantom sealed pool; one of each fall set since mtgo started. I'm in the queue for one right now that starts in about an hour. I did one...

Re: TTC - What's the Pick?

I think it's a very interesting pick decision. I think all 4 cards are very close and I would be fine in any of the decks they'd push me towards, so I'd actually eliminate the Pontiff first as it's the most expensive by a fair margin. Courage is cheapest, but does have the added "cost" of ...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

The format might have ended up like cube for me where I do end up not understanding a lot of the archetypes and watching people draft it doing a lot of "wait why is that card so insane?" moments. However I think both the Limited Resources episode about it, as well as the set review videos ...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

This was what will be my final Modern Masters draft on MTGO, at least real one as I might try a Phantom or two. It started out trying to be a Domain or 5-color good things deck but that wasn't really working so I just went into a straight Green/Black. The few fixers were nice though given some early...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

My second MMA draft, I seemed to have followed Kenji's pattern and drafted Boros. The deck performed very well, going 3-0. First match was a brave soul trying a Dampen Thought deck that didn't quite work out, second match was the toughest against a Blue/Green Suspend, and third match was against wha...
