Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

If you can handle his other creatures, take out the Informer. Seems like the lynchpin of the mill part.

I use one on the Windows Phone 7 called MTG Personal Assistant. It's nice and simple with nifty gadgetry as well.

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

I like the changes. It solves some of the problems that have cropped up in my playgroup with the prolific Dragon's Maze Legends. Now your Creatures spells are still creature spells, not uncomfortably expensive and narrow removal.

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Woo! Went 2-0 in the second and third matches. Yay Exava Borakdos beatdown! Granted, in round 1 of match 3 my opponent accidentally killed himself with Ruric-Thar. Hilarious, but I was one plains away from Boros Charming him to the face for the win, so I think I had that one in the bag anyway. He ha...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Doing my first Return to Ravnica Block draft now. I think my deck turned out great, but I told myself before it started that I had pretty much no answer to Blood Baron. But hey, what are the odds that one was even opened at my table? Faced one in the first match. Hit the table both times and single-...

Who else is happy to see Laura Hall & Linda Taylor back? Their musical versatility is a big part of what makes Wayne's awesome skits so much better than just random noise.

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Okay, someone explain to me why this "Day9" guy playing magic is a big deal. All I've seen him do is lose (albeit in a fairly entertaining way), and twitter is going wonky about it for some reason.

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk

That is the worst. I still haven't gotten to play my Vish Kal deck against anyone yet either, my play group doesn't seem to like Commander so much anymore and I don't trust the local LGS crowd not to just run stupidly broken crap.

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

Tried to build my own version of a Bant Hexproof deck, but only using what cards I already have. I'm pretty well good to go on Loxodon Smiters, so they've been swapped in where possible, but the deck routinely loses to my other standard-legal decks that I just brewed up myself. I don't think any of ...

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge

In many tournaments, you can call a game a draw before beginning. This can save time and help improve one's record (and there are typically prize structures to allow for it). However, if any conditions are attached to the draw (such as one player offering another additional prizes to draw or concede...

Re: My first Magic experience and Questions

Many people use twenty-sided dice as life counters, since you start at 20 and [typically] work your way down to dead. (Personally I like to use either a cell-phone app or two ten-sided dice for my life counter.) Other dice and gems are often used as counters, such as +1/+1 counters on your creatures...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

I also wasn't around when these were popular, though that guy in our play group (you know the one) has the premium foil tournament Sliver deck that has routinely mopped up the entire table whenever it's used.

From what I understand, Slivers are the MtG equivalent of Stargate's replicators?

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge

if i bloodrush a rubblehulk and give someone +4+4 for example can i then bioshift those 4 counters on to another guy during 2nd main. Bloodrush does not create any +1/+1 counters. Bloodrushing merely gives a creature a temporary stat-boost, whereas counters are [typically]* used when an effect can ...

I'm quite liking Kenji as cohost. I hope he sticks around.

Listening to it again now myself; I listened to it yesterday, then somehow jumped from Advent of the Wurm to Teysa. (Read: I fell asleep.)

That's probably what's going to happen eventually, but I spent the money I had for the Intro Pack on a third pre-release the next day instead. Card Kingdom did supply my Vish-Kal, however (as well as a few old multilands to spice the deck up a little: Salt Flats and the Orzhov Basilica). Related: Wh...

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

I don't know about the foil part, but the guild symbols are on all multicolor cards from those guilds as well as any monocolored cards that use the guild's mechanic.

For example, all Green + White cards in the block have a Selesnya watermark, as well as all cards with Populate.

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread

I think I have mixed feelings on the split cards so far (I'm relatively new to MtG, so DGM is my first time seeing these). The value can be fantastic and it's really easy to just get what they do, but when you're actually holding one in your hand, the card looks cluttered (and fake, honestly). Despi...

Re: Dragon's Maze Prerelease Discussion

I decided to go ahead and go to the last prerelease here even though it's raining, I drive a scooter, and none of my kitchen table group wanted to go, and I'm so glad I did. I went 3-1 again with Simic/Izzet/Gruul, thanks in large part to Prime Speaker Zyganna, Ruric Thar, and a FOIL Ral Zarek. :D (...
