Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge
I mean... he's sort of right. There is only one set of rules. The JAR is basically a thing that says "You should break the rules a bit at Regular, because it makes things run smoother and everyone will have more fun".

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge
You are correct, unless decisions have been made that would have been changed by it, or it's been a long time, you'd just add it to the stack now. This is only true at Regular REL though. Possibly the judge is thinking of the Comp REL rules, where it would be up to the opponent to decide if the trig...

Re: Ghostbusters 2016
Well, at least from the people I follow on twitter (and therefore, the people who's opinions I care about), their impressions of film have been overwhelmingly positive. So that's nice. I'll probably go see it this week some time.

Re: Ghostbusters 2016
I really don't understand how the process matters if the end result is good. And novelty is a component of good, so making literally the same thing simply isn't going to be good, but you can take a lot and still create. It just seems like the same argument I hear of people saying practical special e...

Re: Ghostbusters 2016
Also, why are remakes a bad idea again? They're typically, but not universally, bad, but that's just an argument to not make bad remakes, not to not make them at all.

Re: Ghostbusters 2016
I guess there are pros and cons either way. If you make it a sequel instead of a reboot, you get to lean on the established canon to do some of the lore lifting, but you're also tied down to any lore decisions they made before that you might feel limit your ability to make the best movie.

Re: Ghostbusters 2016
I wouldn't say "alright" is bad. I'd say bad is bad. Alright is... alright. Which was me paraphrasing anyway. In any case, I perfectly comfortable with something not being at the extreme ends. It's not like everything less than perfect is terrible. There's a reason we make fun of the fact ...

Re: Ghostbusters 2016
More seemed to care when those gaming sites started saying Gamers are dead and trashing the very same people who read their pages. Strange business plan. We are not doing this. I'd say most people are blind until something appears. I'd fall into that category sometimes, very few films I know exist ...

Re: Ghostbusters 2016
Sorry, if that wasn't clear, as usual, I try for brevity, and get obtuse. The references to "ethics" there was nothing at all to do with this movie, but referring to your previous mention of Gamergate, as an analogous event. Both things have a number of people objecting to stuff for a shit...

Re: Ghostbusters 2016
What makes me unconvinced? Context. Other remakes don't get a video from that guy (who's name I can't remember) declaring, well in advance of release, that he won't be reviewing it. They were ignored, or got the the poor review they deserved. But this movie is somehow worth it? What different about ...

Re: Ghostbusters 2016
Yeah, I'll probably see it. The trailers weren't great (the second is better than the first), but honestly, I've seen good movies have crap trailers just as often as bad movies with good trailers, and there's a certain amount of wanting to be part of the conversation. As for all the drama around it:...

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge
I am not aware of any way to do that. The rules don't prevent it in any way, they just haven't printed anything to do it. The closest thing to what you want to do would be Hive Mind, which makes each opponent put a copy that they control on the stack. If you cast a pact on your turn, then they'll ha...

Disclaimer: this is my summarising something I read - please feel free to correct it. I saw someone mention on Twitter that the Northern Ireland thing is more complicated than it looks. NI might not want to leave the UK or join back up with Ireland, but if they don't, and the UK leaves the EU, the U...

Re: Feminism general thread
I don't agree with your assertion that feminism is most at home in academia, but I think maybe it's just a issue of terminology? I feel like the colloquial "Feminism", is not the same as the academic "Feminism", in as much as Mythbusters is "Science", but not really the...

Re: Feminism general thread
It's late where I am, so I'm going to try to be succinct, but hopefully not obtuse. - When someone is told that they are incorrect on a matter, that *is* teaching that person the difference between right and wrong, if they choose to learn from it. - That, in the context of feminism, telling a person...

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge
You get a bunch of equipment, yes. It's not super intuitive for Infinite reflection, like it might be for say, Cackling Counterpart, which make a token copy, or even clone, which just becomes a copy, because for Infinite Reflection, it's a continuous effect turning your creatures into copies, but th...

Yes. You can process any card currently in exile, for any reason, that is owned by your opponent. If you're quick, you can even exile a madness card that has been discarded before they can play it.

Re: The Magic Venting Thread
Wow, yeah, that's super unusual. Most games stores I'm familiar with figure they make money by letting people play, from people buying stuff from the store while they're there, and as a consequence of people having a place to play, and therefore playing more, than therefore buying more. Or they just...

I was wanted to practice drawing, so I did this today. I don't think I'd really call this 'art', since there was no real creative intent, but it's close enough.

Correct, and also, using the Kraj's Loyalty ability won't meet the conditions for the first ability either.

Yes, and then the Kraj would be able to turn itself into a creature... again.
Also the Kraj would lose the abilities (but not the loyalty counters) again when the the Planeswalker turned back.

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge
Yes. It currently has 0 loyalty, and it's not actually a planeswalker, so it doesn't die from having 0, but removing counters is (usually) a cost, so your options would be limited initially. You can also still only activate one of those abilities a turn.

Yes, the leather is from Tandy. When it's on special, I can get a shoulder of veg-tanned for about $50, so that's not too bad. Probably more efficient to buy a larger amount, but I'm just dabbling. It's 4 layers, stuck together with a water-based contact cement (we don't have Barge in Australia) and...

Re: Limits on freedom of speech
I remember reading something along these lines: Society/Civilisation is agreeing to surrender some freedoms in exchange for protection of the rest. It kinda struck a chord with me, though I've not really taken the time to really think it through. It seems pretty on to money. We put laws in place, re...
