Re: The Limited thread
I hosted a little Conspiracy birthday party yesterday. Had six players, so we did two drafts (I kept all the cards to cube later). First draft ended up Grixis Defenders and won on pinging (which was an unexpected strategy for me). Second draft had a sort of scattershot deck...then I opened Wordlknit...

Re: Do I just not get Strive?
I adore the counter-doubling one, but I'm crazy.
Also Battlefield Thaumaturge makes some strive cards cost virtually nothing.

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread
I was working out which sets I wanted on hand for my home conspiracy draft party, just in case. I settled on two of the Graveyard sets (Innistrad and Odyssey), and sets with Exalted (M13 and conflux), because Exalted seems really awesome with Basandra and the Sentinel and the Boldwyr. Most likely I ...

This is probably one of my favorite LRR-related productions of all time. I was doubled over for the last six minutes and laughed until I cried. The "screaming" loop was perfectly done, just perfect.

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread
I've done two conspiracy drafts over the last two days. Both times I ended up with the token deck - yesterday the UG Wolf and Elephant deck and today the WGr Spirit/Intangible Virtue deck with backup plan Basandra. I can't even express how much conspiracy is everything I ever wanted it to be. My bir...

Re: So that just happened (funny MTG stories)
Today's conspiracy draft had one of the most absurd sequences of events ever. 1) P1 plays Magister of Worth off an EOT FoF. Table ties the vote so it's a board-wipe except the magister 2) P2 (me) and P3 play a new creature each. P3's creature is an Infectious Horror that comes in with haste and a +1...

Re: Commander/EDH Deck Talk
My erstwhile better half put together an infect deck she calls "Mimeoplasm wearing Skytherix as a hat", which doesn't run away with games for three reasons. 1) It's a humongous aggro magnet in multiplayer. Any one of the big infect threats that comes down is an instant removal target. 2) I...

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge
I'm 99% sure on this but it came up in a little draft last night and I want to make sure I was right. We were doing Onslaught block wackiness and one player had Daunting Defender , which reads: If a source would deal damage to a Cleric creature you control, prevent 1 of that damage. His opponent had...

Re: Let's NOPE pre-voting
I don't know if it qualifies as a "Let's Nope" or not, and I know I've recommended it in this forum at least once before, but Eternal Darkness is well worth playing. It's not really a "survival horror" game in the classic sense, more like a third-person action game with a Cthulu-...

Re: The Magic Venting Thread
At PAX east I sorted something out with an opponent (a quirk involving fight and double-strike) and we were both pretty sure we knew what the deal was but called over a judge just to make 100% sure as it was game 3 of the final round of a draft. It's just an assurance thing, if you have access to th...

Re: The House of Stark
I'm really looking forward to Anor Londo adventures. That's where the game really took off for me. It's gorgeous, spectacularly huge, has interesting enemies...aside from those goddamn archers and figuring out how to fight the giant statue bastards it's great. These are both solveable problems. Well...

Re: General LRL Stream Feedback
I'm having quite the opposite experience. It's very different watching each of them stream, especially since they're at such different points in the game and have rather different playstyles. Anyways, Alex is probably done streaming or close since he is essentially at the final boss, and I expect Gr...

During the Dark Souls stream, I noticed that you mentioned in passing that you played EVE. I'm not all that surprised (I think you said something during an earlier stream that made me think he had played), but when/where did you play? New Eden is still a cold, merciless place in case you were wonder...

I know it wasn't an intentional joke, but when you were answering the question about advice you would give to a film student and the first thing Graham says is "make sure your sound is good" I was expecting a flashing "IRONY" over the entire shot from post. Not at all your fault ...

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge
My impression was that they just didn't want to (or have need to) revise how drafting works to incorporate cards that actually do things during the draft, and I can hardly blame them for that. Having people reveal things during the draft to the table in a way that makes sense, then the multi-picking...

I cannot even. With every card they reveal I want it more. I'm going to go do drafts on release weekend at my LGS, and while I'm there pick up the box I'm going to pre-order so I can do a draft with my friends the next weekend, and then immediately start converting it into a cube. Because my GOD.

Re: The General Magic: The Gathering Thread
On a totally different topic, I have learned to respect the hell out of two Journey cards from playing with and against them in draft. 1) Crypsis. Protection from opponents creatures is already decently strong for a combat trick, but it's easy to forget that it also untaps your creature. I actually ...

Re: The Limited thread
Managed to live two different dreams on my first two J/B/T drafts, going 1-2 and 2-1. Draft 1: Simic counter-fuckery. Blew out my opponent in round 2 by hitting a staunch-hearted warrior with the strive counter-doubling spell, making the warrior a 14/14 (it was already buffed once). Good feel. Draft...
