Re: Runner UK Transplant

Heh. I'm moving the other way, leaving the UK in late August (Sheffield), and moving to PEI in Canada. As far as what's local, all I really know is London. I lived in London for fiveish years, and its an amazing city to explore. Take advantage of being next to such an amazing city (and the only city...

Re: The General Chat thread

For the second time, somebody commented on my Desert Bust 8 t-shirt on Sunday, leading to a few long LRR stuff discussions. It is such an odd thing when I'm not really expecting it, or I forget that I'm wearing the t-shirt/hoodie in question.

Re: LRR Minecraft Server

So. I posted here something like a month ago saying that I'm stopping work on the railway line north of spawn. Well, now that I've handed in everything for my undergraduate degree, I'm free (to built more railway). So if anybody wants to donate materials, we still need stone bricks, and probably iro...

Re: So I was thinking about taking a journey across Canada

Last year, when I was in the US, I took the train from Boston to Seattle. I considered the Canadian train, but it was a bunch more expensive, but is supposed to be considerably prettier. But yea, 'tis a huge continent. I absolutely love long train journeys; just sitting there watching the world go by.

Re: The Mixed Emotion Thread

I handed in my dissertation for my undergraduate degree, and am now only one week away from finishing everything. I should be feeling great. But I went to have lunch, and found that I'd lost my wallet. Neither of the two places that I'd been today have had seen it. Then I got home, and found that I'...

Re: Piercings

Can't say I've ever really considered getting a piercing. I imagine this is something that, overall, is pretty heavily gendered. My 10 year old sister got her ears pierced, whereas I have never really considered it. There's also the 'cost' of pain in getting piercings, but that wouldn't be too much ...

The Couch is also my go to. 'Tis just soooo good!

Depending on the type of person, 'What's Going On?' as well, but that's a little in-joke heavy.

Now that the polls are closed, thanks for voting those of you who did. At least judging by the exit polls, we're hardly reflective of the UK.

Re: UK Election

Building on what others have said, look at your constituency and make an informed decision. As far as I'm concerned, if there is a decent chance of my constituency being a marginal seat, I'll vote among those with a decent chance of winning it, even if they are not my preference. Otherwise, if I am ...

Re: Books you're reading now

BBC Radio 4 has been dramatising a number of Ursula Le Guin's books recently. There are two one hour episodes of The Left Hand of Darkness up online, and I think you can listen to them from outside the UK. They are pretty good, although a very condensed form. Have a listen if you are interested. The...

I'm hoping Plaid Cymru does well. I used to live in Ceredigion, and that's a Plaid - Lib Dem marginal. It went over to the Lib Dems at the last general election but Plaid might be able to get it back. As it is, I'm living in a Labour safe seat, and voting Green, hoping that they might come second (o...

I woke up today to find out that I've been accepted onto the MA in Island Studies that was pretty much my only plan for the next two years. I get to be a person studying islands, and get a Master's degree out of it. That also means that for the first time in my life, I'll be moving to a country that...

I'll say the HP one is somewhat better. The differences are marginal and it's also quite a bit more expensive. The HP one has a touchscreen, so there's that, and the Acer one has a slightly higher capacity battery. I think I would be right in saying the CPU in the HP laptop is ever so slightly bette...

I would like to touch on something else, but this might be a bit controversial, so sorry if I offend anybody, and I would be happy to try and discuss the following with different language or in a different way. What I want to touch on is the idea that people have male of female brains (or even, for ...

Re: Let's Chat About Gender and How Biological Sex Isn't Rea

I'm somewhat reluctant to get too involved in this conversation, but wanted to add that X and Y chromosomes, are, to my knowledge, not directly linked to physical signs of sex. Here is a link that shows some of that but there is a bunch more out there. Not that it isn't a huge factor, but shows that...

Oops. I accidentally answered the poll, without realising that was for people already living in Canada. Sorry. I know we're supposed to avoid immigration, but there is a pretty good (I'd say 80%ish) chance that I'll be studying in Canada next year, as I've only applied to one MA course, and that's i...

Hey! So here's an update that I feel is necessary regarding the rail line north. Myself and my brother, helped by a handful of wonderful others, (known as Trains Against the Devil) have been building the line north of spawn, and are currently building a really long bridge. We've almost reached the e...

That looks great, although it might require getting people to use the correct rail (left or right, we haven't really established it yet).

I follow a bunch of Icelandic people on Twitter, and was pleased to see the “Free the Nipple” campaign take off. Over the post couple of months, I've been continuously listening to Hjaltalín, a much more 'pop' like group compared to what I usually listen to, but each of their albums offer something different.

Here is a version of one of their songs, Suitcase Man, that I find particularly stunning.

Hey! Myself (QuintonDreaming) with some help from my brother (66Darkness) are currently working on the rail line to the north, from the spawn station. We're making it an overground project, and it is currently usable a short way out to the north. If anybody has any objections to our current proposal...
