Re: Books you're reading now

Wow, just finished The Martian by Andy Weir in 2 days. Really enjoyed it. That's probably a personal best. Don't tell my boss ;)

Re: Looking for SF/Fantasy book recommendations

The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny are pretty good if you like fantasy. As a few stated before, The Dresden Files are great if you like boilerplate detective novels with a wizardy twist. And I really like Name of the Wind. Have a 1st edition hardcover I need to get signed some day. P.S. Americ...

Re: Magnum Rewatch 25 - Mad Buck Gibson

I think we may be giving Robert Hamilton too much credit for character depth where there probably is none. I can only base this on previous episodes he wrote. Interestingly, Duff King (who flew hang gliders for Magnum PI) holds a Hawaiian distance record of 26.5 miles in Maui. This guy is a veteran ...

Re: Magnum Rewatch 25 - Mad Buck Gibson

I think Mad Buck Gibson choose hang gliding specifically because when he failed, he'd have no safety net like with skydiving. If he's miles from shore, he's probably going to die. But if he's rich enough to pay for wrecking a Ferrari, he can probably afford excellent cancer treatment, right? So why ...

Only mid 90s mech RTS I can recall is Total Annihilation. Clones in mechs vs Digitized humans in mechs.

Loved the "tangent!" exclamations.

P.S. (aka Tangent) If you do more DnD podcasts, derp-o-mancer and dwarf enforcer sound like fun classes :)

Re: Books you're reading now

1Q84 is VERY Japanese, which sounds obvious, but I have to keep reminding myself that when certain things happen. If you've ever seen any anime and read this you'd know what I mean. Does Murakami have a similar style to all his books? It's a good book, though the dialogue repetition is constant.

See Feed Dump, Florida isn't all bad :P We have Dole Whip, which is a pineapple or orange soft serve that you can have covered in Dole Pineapple juice. Really great on a hot day at Magic Kingdom, if you're willing to wait 30-60 minutes in line (it is Disney after all).

Really enjoying 1Q84. Just had the reveal of how the stories intersect. Thanks for the recommendation Volafortis!

This sounds interesting. I'm not sure I've ever read a modern book translated from another language either. Have to add it to the list.

Re: Books you're reading now

Just finished "Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline. It's flawed, with a lot of exposition in the first 5 chapters. Once it gets going though, it's full of 80's nostalgia, near future tech, and interesting characters. I burned through the last 150 pages in a day. Back to book 4 of the Dresden...

LRR in Destiny Year One Video!

Has anyone else checked out Bungie's Youtube page today? "Destiny Year One" video not only has LRR clips (around 7 minutes) but also the thumbnail is from the animated Destiny sketch. Pretty cool :)

Re: LRRcast - Spoilers Part 2

Really thought provoking. I'm glad they touched on spoilers for videogames as well, ... and I wish there was a right answer. Some games, like say Arkham Asylum, you kind of know how it's going to end. But that game is really more about the fun mechanics of beating up bad guys and becoming Batman. A ...

Re: Magnum Rewatch Ep 21 - From Moscow to Maui

So I decided to check out the Magnum Mania episode ratings (bored at work and love trivia myself). Found the lowest scoring episode is "Two Birds of a Feather". Turns out Don Bellasario wrote this 6.8. Curious to see that one. Season 3 episode 20 :)

Re: Magnum Rewatch Ep 19 - Dead Man's Channel

Love the podcast but had a plot question on this one. Prof. Martinez's asst is a native Hawaiian yes? Why would he help cover up proof that Hawaiians figured something out on their own? As a proud native, it seems like he should be helping the good guys bring the tablet to light. Just saying I thin...

I love reading the Halo books, particularly the ones written by Karen Traviss. The guys discussed people seeing the worst of a thing, and that's definitely t...
