Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge
There is no 'as you pass priority.' If they pass priority and you pass priority, the game either resolves the topmost object on the stack, or - if the stack is empty - moves to the next step/phase. Magic is a _very_ systematic game that follows a very specific set of timing. To sum it up in a few ke...

In their post-combat main phase with the stack empty.
Of course they can always respond to the spell or cast something after it resolves.

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge
Brought it up in the judge IRC - figured I would get a second opinion before tweeting Eli (which they advised). No idea if it's an oversight or just a misinterpretation on my end, but it's an interesting one nonetheless. ^^
Thanks for trying - it is indeed a tough one.

114.8c however, specifies that it can 'become a target more than once'- which would seemingly contradict that very statement.

Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature. Angelic Protector {3W} |Creature -- Angel| Flying Whenever Angelic Protector becomes the target...

Re: Design a Card
So long as you aren't returning cards you own from exile.
Processing is only functional because you can't rely on your opponent processing in a way that is favorable for you. Being able to get something back your opponent exiled is... problematic is an understatement.

Re: Design a Card
One thing I forgot to point out that it's a bit problematic in that you have to deal with revealing the card in order to put the ability on the stack... since you need to verify that the ability does indeed trigger - but the ability is worded such that it only ends up revealed as the trigger resolve...

Oof, that's going to be one major pain after another to develop. Any time they've done recursion (epic, buyback, etc) it's been quite problematic to develop - both limited design space _and_ power level issues. This one lets you cast any number of these spells for free without any noticable downside...

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge
It's _not_ relevant to anything other than creatures. It just becomes relevant if those things happen to become a creature while still 'summoning sick'. More accurately, 'summoning sickness' is an informal/outdated term to mean the following: Creatures cannot attack or use abilities with the tap/unt...

Re: Design a Card
Ish... First, need to make sure you refer to them as creature 'cards' in the library, and that you refer back to the original when referencing name ('same name as that creature'). The middle part is a bit muddled as well; they aren't entering, so 'you may have those creature [cards] enter' has no ef...

Re: Design a Card
Balance wise, let's take a not too far fetched scenario - though it does require a third color in this particular instance. Kalastria Healer turn 2 or 3. Cast ~ targeting KH. Get 3 healers, drain for 12. It's a five drop, but get a Gary out (Grey Merchant): same thing, but you're draining for 24. Al...

Re: Magic the Gathering: Ask a Judge
I meant means of removing 'Planeswalker' w/o removing abilities as well. Song of the Dryads does so by setting a basic land type. Imprisoned in the Moon does so by explicitly removing abilities. Neither leaves the formerly-planeswalker with any loyalty abilities. Imprisoned in the Moon is interestin...

Re: Design a Card
Slight terminology fix first. "Copies of that creature" has no meaning. You would want 'cards with the same name as that creature.' Sorcery limits some of the issues definitely. Alternatively you could make it change its effect based on whether you cast it when you could cast a sorcery or ...

Things tied to the Planeswalker type: - Planeswalker subtypes - ETB replacement - SBA loyalty check - SBA uniqueness check Activating loyalty abilities is not - however I can't think of any way to remove the type 'Planeswalker' atm (there's absolutely no way to set/change subtype). If that's the cas...

Re: Magic card or metal band? Why not both?
Slight tweak to the wording of Shudder: "Put a +1/+ counter on target creature. Tap another target creature, that creature doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step.' My initial concern with the pigs, is you can easily dump the damage on a token or other 1/1 that you are using as a ...

Re: Design a Card
@TaiyouShinobi - did you have a chance to look at my template suggestion for your lands? Not to my knowledge. Getting all of a planeswalker with the same name would be useless, as you'd only get to keep one of them anyway. Getting all creatures with the same name would open up edge cases with things...
