Re: Soldiers in Games and Pop Culture
how do you have your job be shooting people but still respect the people you're shooting? In real life, to say nothing of video games. Well, for one thing, calling it the Department of National Defense is not just a euphemism. Tragic stories of collateral damage by U.S. forces notwithstanding, Cana...

Re: Soldiers in Games and Pop Culture
What CoD MW2 failed with, regarding identity of soldiers is that the enemy soldiers on levels felt like they were infinite. You'd murder many and they'd keep coming. -- Games that have numbers popping up above heads of enemies don't help either. Yes, those are some of the kinds of cases that seem u...

Re: Siblings
That's super interesting, Lord Hosk. I can definitely say I have observed strong favoured-child scenarios. In the strongest case I know of, the siblings get along great now as adults, and the less favoured brother has achieved much success in spite of his parents' less than fair treatment. However, ...

Re: Soldiers in Games and Pop Culture
Hmm. I suppose the solution is hard to imagine at this point. Mind you, most challenges seem insurmountable at some point. It used to be too much to ask to have rounded characters in games at all. I wonder if other people see this as a problem worth acknowledging. Even orcs get to be people now -- l...

Soldiers in Games and Pop Culture
Hello, all. I dearly hope someone may relate to me in this. It's quite possible this forum has discussed it before, but I don't know. Today was my husband's third Remembrance Day as a member of the Canadian Army. Something has been bothering me for a good three years now that I've kept to myself, no...

Re: Feminism general thread
Is it extreme to suggest that equity calls for the abolition of gender binary society? Like, wouldn't it be cool if forward-thinking games, instead of giving the option of genders, just had you design and play an unlabeled character? Romance options could be determined by defining what traits NPCs a...

Re: Siblings
I grew up with one three-years-older sister. My mom also still runs to this day a daycare in the home where I grew up. I defined myself a lot as being very different from my sister, and by the time I was school aged I was surrounded by younger children who looked up to me. I wonder now if my self-im...

Re: Siblings
Does anyone think the presence of siblings or lack thereof meaningfully affected their world view? Like do any only children feel more in tune with individualism than those with siblings around them, etc?

I'm sorry Kapol. That really sucks. I hope the hotel acknowledges how unacceptable this is and at least tries to make it up to guests somehow.

I remember fryer boils. I once got frazzled when the owner walked in and completely forgot to use a filter for the oil that was rotating into another fryer and had to wait until the oil was cool enough to basically start over. That was embarrassing. I hope your guys days go well in spite!

I moved away from Victoria, which I love, and a great job and career prospects and all my friends, a full day's drive from any family to be with my husband after 10 years of mostly long distance. But now he's in the army and I'm home alone again for another 7 1/2 week stretch and have as yet failed ...

My hubby and I have ended up with doubles because of living apart. When we're long distance, we both need one. Then we move back together and suddenly have no use for two Gamecubes with Harvest Moon and multiple Mass Effects. Then I go away again and forget to take them with me. :s

Based on the blog post I was a little wary going into this one, but it was hilarious! As I'm sure you all know. Only downside for me was it brought on guilt about taking a break from studying to watch it.

Wait can we travel multiple times? Because if we could, I'd have a lot of fun screwing with my own head. Like once a month, I'd completely rearrange my furniture while my past self was at work. That is hilarious! I think I'd have to try that too now that I've heard the idea. I think I could have so...

Spelling aside, it would be rather fitting if Kane was the one killing his brother.
