Re: RIP Robin Williams

I kind of want to turn this into a #DestigmatizeDepression event, but at the same time, this is so much more. I've been tearing up for hours over this loss. Such a brilliant funny man, so loved and cared about the world-around... if this isn't a huge indication that depression is illogical, what is...

Re: RIP Robin Williams

... Wat. EDIT: I remember reading somewhere that he struggled with depression so I guess it's not that surprising, but yeah, that really sucks balls. Casts a bit of a shadow over his film roles too. Used to be the death of Robert Sean Leonard's character in Dead Poets Society was the saddest thing a...

Re: The Mixed Emotion Thread

I have a really bad sinus headache. :(

However, I also drove about 200 km all by myself! This is my third time driving by myself and the furthest I've ever been, and nothing broke, and no one died! :D Yaaaay!

Re: Advice Thread

I took it without much prep (bought the Kaplan book, barely used it, did some online tests) and did decently as well. Not great at math, but I wasn't great at math to begin with (nor was I in a math-intensive field). I took it twice and got roughly the same score despite a few circumstantial changes...

Re: The Big Relationship Thread

How about a dog? Or cat? Good topic to talk about too. Chicks dig animals. Only if they are fuzzy and cute, though. Except cuttlefish, man. Cuttlefish are awesome. They have logically-constructed camera eyes (vs. ours, which are backwards), W-shaped pupils to detect the polarization of light , can ...

This was after a really, really long day at a British car show in Kincardine (on Lake Huron), hence our (well, my) generally disheveled appearance and epic sunburns. It was pretty sick thoug...

Re: The General Chat thread

Perhaps I'm alone in being so easily swayed. I've been trying to read fiction lately as a result of the Literature series, something I've always had a hard time doing. I've never been great at parsing (or even noticing) symbolism in text, whether people agree it's there or not. I think he does a goo...

Re: The General Chat thread

Catcher in the Rye can spaghet-fucked. I hate how the teachers try to pass off Holden Caufield as some profound intellectual. He wasn't. He was a spoiled brat. I don't see how those two things are opposite. Holden was a spoiled brat AND an intellectual. I hated Catcher in the Rye when I read it, to...

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules

Sometimes I wonder when "go to school, have a career" became the only "viable" path in life. Talking to my boyfriend a couple days ago about his grandfather, who started out as a panel beater and ended up as a highly-skilled welder able to support four? five? children and his sta...

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules

Around here I've heard it go both ways. Either people pronounce "our" and "are" the same, or "our" and "hour." It does seem to be related to how quickly and formally one is speaking. "Our" like "are" is good for informal settings with frien...

Re: The Confession Topic: Get It Off Your Chest!

Thanks for the reply Memo. I mean it when I say I care about you. I know I'm far away IRL and I act kinda dopey on the server (intentionally; it's where I try to take myself less seriously) but I do care. I feel bad when you're upset and I wish I could make it better, I'm sorry I can't a lot of the ...

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules

It's been two weeks since I talked to my thesis supervisor about my project and all I've managed to do is collect a bunch of articles and skim a few of them. I don't have a lot of self-discipline, and I keep berating myself for not being further than I am. My brain keeps saying, "I should be wo...

Re: The Confession Topic: Get It Off Your Chest!

I almost always feel as though death is around the corner. I'm always afraid of wasting my time on this Earth, and yet I spend most of my time inside near my computer. Why? Because the things I'd rather be doing and the people I'd rather be doing those things with I can't do or see at that moment. A...

You're so average that the number of people who are less attractive than you is equal to the number of people who are more attractive than you.

I'm not doing this right, am I?
