Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules

You can't force someone into something and then go, "Gee, I sure hope they're happy, I care so much about them. :)"

If you truly gave a shit you'd fucking ask them what they want, not just pressure them into whatever you think they should be doing and hope for the best.

Re: How are you feeling... in song

There is no pain, you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move, but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse Out of the corner of my eye I turned to look but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now...

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules

There was a house spider crawling up my chair. I generally leave little crawlies alone if they don't pose a threat to me (versus, say, mosquitoes) so I let it climb onto my leg. I figured it would finds its way eventually. A few minutes later I got a twinge in my neck. The bastard bit me. So I squis...

Re: The depressing depression thread

I have the demons too. I think a lot of people do. In fact, I have a hard time understanding people who don't. I can't tell if people are really that confident or are just really good liars (though I suspect the latter). The comic made me think: I wonder if it's a case of finding something that sile...

Re: Advice Thread

Thanks, everyone. We do Skype, but Avistew is right: it's an issue of time overlap. He is only available in the evening and it seems that I will have to work through to the evening. Watching something together sounds like a good idea; we kind of do that already, send each other links to stuff like T...

That's one of the downsides to Canadian Politeness™: not everyone has gotten the memo. :(

Stay safe, MinniChi. Don't want you getting heatstroke. Tomorrow should be milder, though.

(Relax, take it easy) You see the world through your cynical eyes You're a troubled young man, I can tell You've got it all in the palm of your hand But your hand's wet with sweat And your head needs a rest And you're fooling yourself if you don't believe it You're kidding yourself if you don't beli...

Re: The Mixed Emotion Thread

A first-year student at a nearby university was struck and killed by lightning this morning.

It's orientation week.

I'm ... glad I didn't go outside this morning when it was pouring, but man, what a terrible time/way to go.

Damn.

Re: Advice Thread

Can anyone give me advice on how to maintain a long-distance relationship when you're very busy? I have to work 6-9 hours a day, 7 days a week, classes in the morning, lab work mid-afternoon to night. The thing is I am close enough to visit (about 45 min away) but I don't have a lot of free time, an...

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules

After getting up at 7 am two days in a row to attend lengthy orientation sessions I finally had the opportunity to sleep in today.

Today was also the day that the guy contracted to mow the grass in my complex came in... at 8 am.

He's still mowing, nearly two hours later.

Ugh.

Re: The Mixed Emotion Thread

It's at times like these when you're alone in your newly-rented room in a town you don't know that you really come to appreciate what social ties you have. I'm really grateful I have the people I do in my life, who listen to me when I'm upset and welcome me into their homes when I need to get out of...

My best friend from high school gave me a belated birthday present. I was not expecting this. Her birthday was last week and I gave her a card but no gift (I hadn't seen her in a long time and didn't know what she might like. I'm always really insecure about buying people stuff, I'm afraid they won'...

Re: The Confession Topic: Get It Off Your Chest!

I've been reading the subreddits TheRedPill, TheBluePill (satire of TRP) and PurplePillDebate (Debates between TRP and TBP) since the Santa Barbara shooting. No, I'm not sure why I care. I guess it's like watching a train wreck? But the main point I have is, I don't know why everyone is so obsessed ...

Fall semester starts tomorrow and I'm super stoked to be getting back into it. Also I felt I did really well on my GRE on Wednesday, my raw scores were high. I won't know officially for another week+, but feeling good and actually feel on track for this year. Yay! :D Woot! I'm really glad the GRE t...

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules

Got my new GPS in the mail and the display is messed up. It doesn't show green (all the "green" lines are blacked out) so everything is purple/gray/yellow. Changing color modes does nothing, at first I thought maybe it was some sort of colorblind setting but I'm pretty sure it's just suffe...

Grad school officially starts for me in two weeks, at a new school, in a new town, with no friends. Panic levels are seriously through the roof here guys. I'm freaking out. I don't know if I can do it. I'm afraid I'll fuck it up, or my social anxiety will undermine me even further and I won't build ...

I'm not 100% certain that the urban myth that 'dogs can't look up' is garbage, but do you know what I AM 100% certain about? HUMANS FUCKING WELL NEVER DO! No, you're right. I'm sorry. I should shut up. It's not like I've helped any of you for anything. Honestly, I don't even know how to help. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do to make things better so I'm just inevitably going to make them worse. And, in a sense, they're right. You're right. I am b...

Re: The depressing depression thread

That, to me, speaks of a grand self-absorption. Right at this moment it's trendy to talk about Robin Williams' passing. Everyone's going on about it, they should too. Oh it's such a shame . They liked his movies, and they miss him. If only he hadn't killed himself, I would still get to watch stuff w...
