Re: LRRcast - Christmas Traditions Part: 2

The only Christmas things I need to consume every year are A Muppet Family Christmas, and Super Mario's Sleigh Ride. The former was probably the only Muppets thing I knew before highschool, though I knew Sesame Street. I was also the only Fraggle thing I saw until my sister bought the DVDs. Super Ma...

Re: LRRcast - Christmas Traditions Part: 1

The thing with tire d'érable (the maple toffee), is that the maple syrup is poured onto snow, and after a while it sets, you roll it up on a popsicle stick, and eat it. So you get a cold, sweet maple toffee, and if you did it right, there will be snow between layers of the toffee, and it's really re...

Re: Favorite and Least Favorite Boss Fights

Metal Sonic, Sonic CD: This boss is what every sonic boss should be like: based on speed. It's a race! Not to mention there's tons of hidden pathways to avoid danger if you know where to jump, and the music is baller as heck. The remake of the fight in Sonic Generations is great too, and they someh...

Re: LRRcast - Anime Fall Recap

Snow White with the Red Hair was good, but Shirayuki was so close to being a good character. There are times where she finds herself in trouble and almost manages to get out of it on her own, only to ultimately be saved by Zen. This happened enough to bother me, because she's so competent otherwise....

Re: LRRcast - AskLRR Part 3

Hearing you talk about favourite chips made me think about favourites. Why is it that favourites are always framed as only being able to have that one thing? Like if you could only have one drink, or if you could only listen to one album. Why not flip the question around? If you couldn't eat at one ...

I never really agreed with that 40-60% rating of PSU. You really don't want a a PSU to be under performing as much as you don't want it having to overperform. Both are bad for the stability of the voltages and can lead to spikes. I tend to go for 25% overrated over calculated power draw. PSUs are u...

Re: Gaming Desktop Advice

Try taking a look at some AMD parts. Assuming you aren't going absolutely top of the line, it tends to be cheaper. There is no reason to buy an AMD CPU over Intel. Take a look at some benchmarks . The i5 there, which isn't even the newest/best, it's one that is comparable price wise that I found on...

About butter tarts, they are definitely a Canadian thing. I think the closest analogue the US has is pecan pie, and for English desserts, I think the closest would be treacle tart. My sister discovered this on her own when she wanted to make some. She tried looking a recipe in The Joy of Cooking, wh...

Re: Let's play through our backlogs

I played through Electronic Super Joy: Groove City last night, and it's fun, but I didn't like it as much as the first. The game is virtually identical to the first. It follows in the steps of the first, where the goal is to make it to the end of each level avoiding obstacles all with an awesome sou...

Re: Obscure Game Recommendations!

SteamSpy is really helpful to figure out how popular a game is if it has been out for a while. One game I discovered in January is Trace Vector . It is an arcade action puzzle game with an early 80's aesthetic. Everything in the game is drawn with vector graphics and lots of bloom, emulating the fe...

I've finished a couple more things since my last post: The Talos Principle: The best puzzle game I've played since Portal 2, but dear gods do they need to make the Fast Forward button have a default binding. The lack of internal checkpointing for any of the puzzles (even the final, enormous, multi-...

Re: Let's play through our backlogs

I finished Cthulhu Saves the World a while ago, but didn't have time to talk about it. I only played on easy, so I can't really comment on how well the battle system worked. Suffice to say, easy was pretty damn easy. The game is a parody JRPG, and it's pretty self aware of it. Near the beginning of ...

In the original Star Wars trilogy, I would change the fate of Darth Vader. I would change it so that he turns into a Sebastian Shaw force ghost.

I think the first video I saw was A Stitch in Time. One of the others that I constantly show people is The Canadian, especially since I am Canadian.

One that someone in the crew (Andy?) has said is their favourite is Eyewitness Accounts.

One major thing I like is that it's not too grindy; chances are, if I can't get into an RPG, it's because it's too grindy(Most MMOs, the entire Pokémon series, etc.), but I'm very happy with Chrono Trigger. Yeah, that's one of the things I've really appreciated about CT, especially on repeat playth...

Re: Let's play through our backlogs

Well, it took a while, but I beat Persona 4. I really enjoyed the cast, and the story. I got really attached to some of the social link stories. I wasn't able to max out as many as I wanted to though. I got a whole bunch of them up to 7 or 8, but I ran out of time. I only maxed out my party, Yumi, a...

Re: Gaming General Chat Thread

I recently found a cool website for steam data: http://steamspy.com/ Not every game is on there, it looks like some devs/publishers would prefer to not have their sales data public, but it's pretty interesting to see exactly how much some games sell. Going forwards, I'm going to try prioritizing gam...

Re: Let's play through our backlogs

Two weeks later, and I've beaten Valkyria Chronicles. It's a really good tactical JRPG. I liked how it switches between the map overview, but moves in to a over-the-shoulder view for when you're taking action with a character. It's a really solid battle system, and I really liked how they avoided a ...

Re: LRRcast - Spoilers

Hallmark of great storytelling is that prior knowledge of moments of tremendous drama should heighten, not lessen, the moment and the desire to reach it. If spoilers (have to) matter, clearly the storytelling's not good enough ("I heard this spoiler now I don't care" vis "I heard thi...
