Re: Best Tutor?
I think it's between Demonic, Stoneforge and Tinker. Stoneforge provides a body and has a relevant second ability. Tinker not only searches for an artifact, it puts it into play. Blightsteel Colossus for CMC 3 and 2 cards? If the Artifact you sac is a Mox, you can put that thing into play turn 2... ...

Re: Let's make a LRR block
Hmm, I'm not sold on Twitch. Having everybody pay 5 is pretty much shutting down the game (and it doesn't say what happens if it can't be paid). More importantly though, there's a streaming mechanis and if we use that, I think Twitch should go with it in some way, either by triggering off it or even...

Re: Let's make a LRR block
Yea, the way I templated it it's a triggered ability and the damage is dealt in addition to combat damage and the instead would make it a replacement effect. I think making it a replacement effect is a good thing, so I'd ammend it that way. Flavor card idea: "Where is the Racism?" Somethin...

Did you guys notice the LRR block thread in the MtG section. If so, what would you like to see in that block?

Re: Journey Into Nyx Pre-Release
If Wizards had made an announcement that they were seeding the prerelease with special "god packs" that had all the gods in them. It most defiantly would have sold more packs which would have only helped the stores out. They gave an official announcement - it's not just prerelease packs, ...

Re: Let's make a LRR block
Well, deathtouch only goes into green and black, which limits things a bit. But then I think of the streaming giant growth and go: awesome. Block me, I pump and in the worst case trade up, don't block me and I either pump for damage or have backstab(?) or a message trigger(?). Could be a sweet arche...

Re: Let's make a LRR block
How about: Arstotska Diplomatic Papers 1 Artifact - Equipment Equipped Creature gets -30/-0 and can not be blocked. Equip 2 Makes your creature a 0/X (unless you've reached a silly game state already) and might even be quite pushed for some older cards with "whenever this creature attacks and i...

Re: The Journey Into Nyx Happy Fun Spoiler Time Thread!
I disagree with you on the best. I feel the blue one is easily the best, and might even be constructed playable in a control shell, replacing Divination. The fact is that you can play it on turn 2, then leave it until you're ready to crack it. When you want to crack it, you can leave the mana open,...

Re: Let's make a LRR block
RTR block was weird because it had 11 new keyword mechanics. I can't even remember if it had any returning mechanics, and the only repeated mechanics were in Dragon's Maze, which also introduced Fuse. Hybrid mana costs were a returning mechanic and yea, split cards were another one, but fuse turned...

Re: Let's make a LRR block
Damned if I know, just thought they were interesting ideas that somebody with more MtG imagination than me could do something with. Hmm, I think the documentary could work if it was a bounce spell, that allowed your opponent to take a card from their graveyard for each target beyond the first. Stil...

Re: The Journey Into Nyx Happy Fun Spoiler Time Thread!
I'm a little confused by Dictate of Heliod. So far all the other Dictates have been mutual effects. EVERYONE draws an extra card, EVERYTHING takes double damage, ALL lands tap for double mana. Now this one is just... your things get +2/+2. It's a perfectly fine card but it's totally not in keeping ...

Re: Let's make a LRR block
The Border Guard is very un-setty. The documentary doesn't seem to be doing something you would want to do - it gets your opponent spells back and in most cases you don't want to do that. It does prevent land drops, which could be an issue and even worse, if they had a conditional counterspell in th...

Re: Let's make a LRR block
Let's see if Snorsh sticks. I put Alexes Choice in the cardfile for now. Right now we are looking at common: CW01 - Creature - small - Flungebird CW02 - Creature - small - CW03 - Creature - small - CW04 - Creature - small - CW05 - Creature - small - CW06 - Creature - small - CW07 - Creature - small ...

Re: The Journey Into Nyx Happy Fun Spoiler Time Thread!
Also, we got another effect like it. Except this is red. It's 1R, with Strive 2R, where it puts a copy with haste in that gets exiled at the next end step. So there's that. Also, a 3-drop 5/5 flier, because why not? It does let your opponent draw a card during your upkeep, but still... a 5/5 flier ...

Re: Let's make a LRR block
A fair point, but I don't think we should go looking for rules to break unless there's a good reason to do so. I mean, if you've got a card that is kinda clunky, or doesn't feel right, maybe it's time to break some rules, or maybe it's time to drop the idea, or re-work it. Sure. I don't want to put...

Re: Let's make a LRR block
A few things: I think that designing a serious set is both more satisfying and better overall. Having it be un-set like just means that we can basically not worry too much about actually working with a design space. Having it serious makes it so we could, in theory, play with the cards if we wanted...

Unskippable At the beginning of your end step if no X, sacrifice CARDNAME. For instance: Olive Fork of James 0 Artifact - Equipment (C? U?) Re: Let's make a LRR block
Sure, just make it playable and reign in the complexity. Ultimately this thing should be played, not just read. We will have a lot of vanilla and french vanilla creature at common. We still have flavor text, names and art to work with. I think a 1/4 cat would fit the set. Add "Have you looked a...

Re: Let's make a LRR block
Just to move this back on track a bit. We still need mechanics and try to work out the main mechanical themes to go along with the background theme. And then it's filling up common and testing some. Legendary cards are generally at least rare - mainly because you've got 80 uncommon slots and in a tr...

Re: Let's make a LRR block
Yup. I think 12,11,10,9,8 works, though if there's a cycle of L or A at common, it should be 12,11,9,8,7 I think, cutting a spell from W and G, cutting a creature from UBR.

Re: Let's make a LRR block
Well, large sets usually have about 5 keywords and the small ones introduce ~2. So we could probably do with 7 keywords in total and not make it too unweildy. Your card introduces Viral, but it also adds Scry to the mix and while returning a mechanic makes sense, I'm not sure we should go with Scry ...
