Well. I suppose I might have a picture or two of me. Here's me and Paul, Paul with a very Paul expression.

Re: Books you're reading now
I know this has nothing to do with your post but can I just say "awwwwwwwwwww" at the picture of your cat? I have a black cat that's just like that! :D (Sorry, crazy cat lady here) I can't help going 'awwwww' at Quinton (the cat in the picture) sometimes. He is such a dreamy little black ...

Re: Color-blindness
Seriously though, vision is fascinating. I always find it crazy how we see (or at least process) in relatives not absolutes. (hence this crazy illusion; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checker_shadow_illusion ) I think the same principle works with colour too, and its why those "inverted colour&q...

Re: Closed Captioning on Youtube Videos...
I was looking at the transcript section of the wiki this week and was kind of planning to contribute to that once I have some big chunks of time. Combining that with a closed caption effort on Youtube seems like a great idea.

Re: Books you're reading now
I'm reading, and thoroughly enjoying Ursula Le Guin's somewhat neglected 'novel', Always Coming Home. It's a beautifully written, let's see, somebody described it as the archaeology of the future or something like that. It concerns a valley in a future northern California. There is a narrative threa...

A(nother) Charity Gaming Marathon this weekend (27th - 29th)
Hi all. I'm just writing here to plug a somewhat painful gaming marathon that I'm helping my brother with. 'Tis 'Depriving Myself of Sleep for Charity' - http://www.48withoutsleep.com/ And it is a 48 hour stream where we don't sleep! It is raising money for War Child, a charity helping children in c...

Re: What type of Christmas will you have?
I get the delightful opportunity to cross the Atlantic and have Christmas with my parents and siblings in Boston this year. I was there last year, but I spent the whole year there. I'm hoping that there will be some snow, because British snow, if there is any, is often that most disappointing thin l...

Well, my twitter account is @QuintonDreaming
I annoyingly alternate between two account names, this one and QuintonDreaming.
I will post about pretty much everything, but often short rants about what I'm reading for University.

Re: Looking for SF/Fantasy book recommendations
Firstly, I have a really bad memory for what I read, so although I know it was good at the time, I can rarely identify why. Anyhow, here is a selection of my favourites. Acacia trilogy – David Anthony Durham – This is one of those trilogies where the first book seems like the entire story, but every...

Re: KickStarter Smoothie
As somebody who had asked for yet another form of liquorice, this was brilliant. On the other hand, it looked unpleasant enough to justify this being a one-off return to the format.
The olive, artichoke, and rye bread one was a clear stand-out, in that it could be an actual thing.

That shameless pandering to your UK fans really hit the spot.
It was a very accurate description of the UK supermarket hierarchy and Sainsbury's middle of the road position in it.
I also have a friend with a penguin onesie... although not from Durham.

Re: LRRcon 2014
I've got 3 people already in a 2-person room, but I'll give you $15 a night if you want floor space. That almost sounds like you'd pay me to sleep on the floor... I'd be tempted just for the Saturday night. I'd be worried about breaking hotel occupancy rules, but there is little way they could know...

Re: LRRcon 2014
I concluded that I should probably bring my hotel room hunt to the main page, so here goes. Anybody got a hotel room and would like to share it, presumably to cut costs? Similarly, is there anybody also looking for somebody to share a room with before booking? I need a room. I would prefer just Frid...

Re: LRRcon Runners Room Share Thread
Okay. Last minute appeal for a room. (well, with the discount that is).
Anybody just bought tickets? Great! You need a room, I need a room.
Anybody with a room already but nobody to share it with? Looking to save on accommodation?
You know how this goes.

Re: LRRcon Runners Room Share Thread
As there do appear to be rooms left, although they are a little on the expensive side, I should invite anybody looking for rooms to consider sharing with me for Friday + Saturday nights. I will kind of need to book other hotels nearby otherwise, so if you think you might want a shared room, the soon...

Re: LRRcon Runners Room Share Thread
And now that I've booked my travel, and bought my tickets, just the thorny issue of accommodation left. I'm perfectly content to couchsurf for the rest of the time I'm in Seattle, but for the Saturday night, and possibly the Friday night, I would imagine it would be nice to be in the hotel. I'm afra...

Good Evening. Well, I thought it would do me no harm to introduce myself. My name is Owen. I'm also, as you can see Hekla (or other Icelandic volcano depending on username availability), or Quinton (the cat you can see in my avatar – 'tis totally me). Just looking at LRRcon, and considering going. I was just wondering if anybody else would be/up to taking the train from the East Coast? I am in Boston for the year (would normally be in the UK), and think it would be kind of fun, especially with possible other LRR fans.

My family still sing the happy birthday song twice, once in English and then again in Welsh, even though my siblings and I know almost no Welsh.
