Re: The General Chat thread

It's a sad day for Australian gamers as it seems that the parent company of Games.On.Net has shut them down. No official word yet if it's just the news site or if the hundreds of games servers they provided will also be shutdown.

Oh hey, I too grew up in a house from the 1890's. My parent's still live in it. They are fun. The boards creak at night, (it can even sound like slow footsteps when several creak one after another). And close a door on one side of the house can move a door on the other (or just make them rattle a li...

"It's a tenuous place for everyone, including those on top are getting challenged by other epics in a way that the president of a country doesn't have to face. They don't have someone coming in and calling them out for a battle". You should read about Australian politics then, they don't p...

Re: Video Games with Video James

James mentioned moving his stream start time back 30mins and wondered how it effects Australian and New Zealanders. It doesn't, your streams are at like 2am in the morning, so not many could watch them live anyway and 30mins makes no difference.

3.Shades Children by Garth Nix. This is one that I really loved when I was a teenager. It takes place in a future where overnight every person over the age of fourteen vanished. The remaining children were rounded up and now are being used for "parts" to create monsters for the mysterious...

I was really surprised when Paul didn't know what Bitumen was, it must be a regional thing. In this part of Australia the road is commonly referred to as 'The bitumen', so it's in the common vocabulary, I thought it was more widespread then just here.

Re: Fight the Future 15 - Battle Royale

You were talking about the soldiers in WW1 that would tell their enemy to go back so they didn't have to shoot them. Last week on the Great War youtube channel (a week-by-week coverage of WW1) they talked about the battle of loos, where German machine gunners stop firing because of how many British ...

Re: Magnum Rewatch 27 - The Sixth Position

The bit I had a problem with was the side plot of the camera lens. Are we really expected to believe that Magnum had the camera (+lens) for so long that Robin Masters came back, borrowed it from the guest house, lost the lens, and put it back in the guest house, all without either Magnum noticing o...

Entire episode of House of Stark is unmuted and watchable. Just goes to show you never really know what will and will not be muted.

Re: Magnum Rewatch 27 - The Sixth Position

HOLY CRAP! Magnum finally got arrested for killing someone....and then immediately gets released. I went in expecting this to be a terrible "magnum has to protect unwilling/annoying client", but it was a bit better than that. Not much though, I felt the story was a bit all over the place.....

Re: Episode suggestions

Recently watched Battlestar Galactica for the first time and I would put it forward as a candidate. For the format that Fight the Future uses, maybe just covering the initial 2-part miniseries would be enough. You get the Apocalypse and how the various people deal with it. Not really 'young adult', ...

I did take note at that start when Dick is put into the trunk, that he just seems to climb in without a struggle....which seemed like bad acting at the start. However once we found out he was in on it, the bad acting was suddenly a sneaky hint at the plot. Have to agree with you guys, this was an av...

Re: Fight the Future 12 - Catching Fire

@DaMage Thanks for the feedback! Do keep in mind that some people (including me) are very fond of the movie, and that movies aren't books and have to be very selective in the information they include. And lots is always cut out at the last minute, making for loose ends. Plot holes are not that big ...

It is told that these special games are held every 25 years (this is called the third one), then only about 12 people from every 25 hunger games will actually survive. I can't recall this particular part, so I'd be interested in a specific page/time if you can remember it, or at least the scene. Th...

So I've been holding off watching the movie until you did this podcast, having seen the first one back when it was in cinemas. This is going to be a long one. Wow, what a terrible story and I kept noting plot holes that occur from actions that make no sense. 1) The hunger games have 2 people from ea...

Re: Magnum Rewatch 25 - Mad Buck Gibson

Okay, with a name like Mad Buck Gibson, and the antics at the start, I did not expect this to be a 'heavy' episode. I think what puts this apart from most magnum episodes, and most modern TV investigative shows, is that there is no 'bad guy' in this episode. I think the writing was a bit poor to hol...

You will now no longer offend Aussies watching the stream. It's a really easy way to notice a tourist, because they try to pronounce things how they are spelt.

I liked the whole "good cop, bad cop" routine that the cops were playing throughout this episode, and because of the trope it completely threw me off who the killer was. I really like these call-backs to the pilot, first the uzi a few episodes back, and now Rick's drug history...seems like...
