Re: Arclight_Dynamo's Sports Journey
Yeah, that was absolutely the case with the soccer game I caught - no one scored the entire game, even in extra time. It was tied 0-0 when it went to the shootout.

betsytheripper: Fair hits in hockey don't bug me at all. It's the, well, goonery that you often see that puts me off. When two guys throw down gloves, grab each other by the jersey with the left hand, and proceed to knock out each others' teeth with the right. All while the ref stands there watching...

Jamfalcon: Yep, that's one of the reasons I like curling, too - the pace is slow enough that it seems more "thoughtful" than other sports can be. That might be a misconception, but taking turns and pausing to think out shots would lend itself to that (and now I['m wondering if I might enjo...

Re: Arclight_Dynamo's Sports Journey
Hm... interesting... Unfortunately, one thing I've discovered is that, to be engaged in a sporting event, I need someone I can plausibly root for. The MLS game last night was between Seattle and Toronto and, being Canadian, I could get behind Toronto FC. The issue is that Canada isn't at all competi...

Arclight_Dynamo's Sports Journey
Growing up, my family never watched sporting events. I mean, my dad took me to the (very) occasional hockey or baseball game, and I played softball as a kid, but having a preferred team? Following that team? Watching a sporting event on television, ever? Nope. Not a thing we did, for whatever reason...

Oh! Cool!
My name is a reference to James Burke's Connections series. The arclight and the dynamo are two important technologies he highlights, and the arclight is right there in the show's opening credits. The image is kind of creepy and haunting, and it stuck with me.

Maybe it's just me, but the Cards Against Humanity Holday Hole stunt makes me sad and angry that they raised $82,791 as of yesterday to dig a hole. Maybe they're planning to do something charitable with the money, but on their FAQ it says the only thing they're going to do with the money is to keep...

I suspect you're right that this comes down to a fundamental disagreement in underlying philosophies. I also suspect that further debate on the point would be fruitless; I seriously doubt that either side is going to abandon their philosophies, especially given how deeply-held they seem to be. So I ...

And even after all that I forgot to talk about the Hamilton thing. To summarize that point, I feel like what they did, calling Pence out, was no different than what wraith did. I don't see it. At all. - There is a difference between criticizing a public official about how they carry out the duties ...

Forgive if this comes of as snide or accusatory, I'm trying to be as Socratic as possible. No worries! While I have strong feelings on the issue, rest assured that I don't have any negative feelings toward you. This is a civil conversation, as far as I'm concerned. :) It's the fact that I'm being g...

I just want to make this clear first thing first. I am completely ok with the stream as I understand it at the moment. I plan on checking it out firsthand after DB, and my opinion might change at that point, but from what I understand, its good. My only concern with it at the moment is the name, as...

Okay, so the part in italics, is this similar to what you experienced as 'tough love?' Or are you willing to give examples? The stuff I bolded, how do you feel about them? Would you consider them to be effective or a good thing to do? 90% of the "tough love" I've experienced is some varia...

Let's just consider, for a moment, that the person trying to apply "tough love" to me doesn't know me or my situation better than I do. Or better than my psychiatrist does. Let's consider that I have effective, healthy ways to deal with stress given to my by my psychiatrist. Let's consider...

"Tough love" nearly killed me. No joke. "Tough love" is a terrible thing to inflict on someone who has depression and an anxiety disorder. "Tough love" nearly ruined - nearly ended - my life. Not to mention most of the time I've run into "tough love," it's rea...

Why not try this?
"I'm seriously depressed. I think I need help. I'm trying to open up to you about it, but I don't know how to talk about it, and I don't know how to ask for help."
Tell them the truth, and they'll help you get the words out.

Blurgh. Depression is popping up again - no idea why, either, since it's coming out of nowhere, and it's been ages since it's cropped up. Maybe I'm just due. I feel weird and bad. Nothing more concrete than that. That's the worst kind of depression. You can't even put your finger on what's causing y...

Re: Audio issues on some (PC?) streams
I have noticed, over and over, that there's a weird directional audio issue on a lot of streams. Usually in a first-person game. If the streamer looks at the source of a sound, it's audible, but if they look away, it becomes less audible. It seems like the game is trying to make the audio directiona...

Exactly. But, more than that, electronic voting systems are much higher-profile targets than banks. Is Russia going to hack into your TD account to steal a few tens of thousands of dollars? Of course not. But will they hack an electronic voting system to bring about an outcome favourable to them? Yo...

I'm generally very happy with the new streaming format, though I do have comments. The streams I regularly watch are MoI, LN, CTS, TS, AFK, Fu¨t (i.e. LRL), TTSF, and W+P. So I'll talk about those. I'll also watch Newday Tewsday when the game being played is one I'm interested in, but not one I want...

You need to tell the electoral official that you decline the ballot. Not only do they hear and know your ...

Re: Canadian Electoral Reform Survey - Please Pass it On!
This is basically what it's like in Australia. It's only compulsory to turn up and get your name marked off (if you're not pre-polling/absentee voting); what you do with the ballot papers once you receive them is your own problem. Yes, and Australia is the usual point of comparison when mandatory v...
