Escape from New York

Tomorrow I begin the long bus ride to New York City to see my littlest brother sing at Carnegie Hall. It will be approximately 24 hours before I can escape the great monstrous steel and concrete midden that is New York. So... what should I do while I'm waiting for the concert? Suggestions appreciate...

Schadenfreunde is taking joy in other people's suffering. Those people aren't suffering. No matter how tacky or painfully cornpone you find their lives, they're coping quite well in them, and so there are no opportunities for you to experience schadenfreunde. Now, taking joy in your own sense of sup...

Ironically, Ben's problem is the one easiest to deal with. There are a number of desensitization techniques for fear. Compulsive stealing, drinking, and raging are much nastier. How in the world did he become frightened of stuffed animals, anyway? Childhood psychological experiment went awry? A stuf...

It is SO disturbing that the alcoholic was the most in-control one of them all.

Loved the music - it added an energy and mood to the story that's difficult to produce otherwise.

Make a persons eyes proportionate? That's one of the conventions, Tensen. The size of a character's eyes is directly related to how emotionally sympathetic you're supposed to find them. It's a convention. Like having little birds fly around the head of a stunned cartoon character. Or the coyote alw...

You can dislike those conventions, and thus dislike any animation with them, without having to actually seen all of them. I will note that not all anime actually follows those conventions. If it uses 'like' or 'as', it's a simile. If it's a direct, unmediated comparison, it's a metaphor.

The simile charged across the screen like a rampaging buffalo, but the metaphor was a gentle zephyr wafting across the plains.
