Re: The Force Awakens.

Well, people will turn any friendship into a 'ship', and look for any small hints that may support their fandom of that ship. As for why this particular ship has gotten so much attention, part of it is simply the parts of the internet we frequent, but also it's because a good chunk of the Star Wars ...

Presumably living near a port where humans appeared to be in the minority, she picked up a number of languages. I don't know if the Wookiee language was ever established to be a difficult language to learn in-universe, but I don't believe Chewbacca was ever shown having difficulties communicating w...

Re: Advice Thread

Is this what you're looking for? Admittedly it looks rather pricey. I checked eBay and the replacement kits there seem to be about the same price. I don't know if the styluses are interchangeable enough between models that there would be third-party options or if a pen from a different model would ...

Re: The Force Awakens.

Rey waiting for her parents to return is an explicit part of her character that's focused on several times in the movie. Finn brings up his (lack of) parentage once, and largely seems to have moved passed it. Going from that, Rey's parentage is almost certainly going to come up as a plot point in th...

Re: The General Chat thread

Yeah. Anonymized statistics on the numbers and types of calls in different parts of the city are one thing, and something that probably should be public information. But knowledge of every individual 911 call - there is no reason I can think of for that to be public information.

Isn't there a similar system in Florida, which is the cause of "Florida Man syndrome"? Gives news crews plenty a heads up on where to be, and offers plenty of fodder for filling time/space.

Re: The Force Awakens.

On an unrelated topic, did anyone else think that this movie had more technobabble in it than the entire Original Trilogy (and probably prequel trilogy) combined?

Of course that would be the one thing JJ took away from Star Trek.

Re: The Force Awakens.

I disagree. Granted, not much was actually done with her character in this film beyond setting her up for the next two - but that's not much different than Luke in A New Hope. As for besting everyone, well...Rule #1 in Star Wars: The Force is OP. However, even with the Force I don't think she was re...

Re: The Force Awakens.

Unrelated to the above, but on the topic of Rey and Luke: Some of the silly complaints over Rey's "Mary Sue-ness" are about how she seems a lot more capable in the Force than Luke was in ANH or even Empire, but that actually does make a bit of sense. Luke was raised in a fairly secure ...

Re: The Force Awakens.

Finally managed to see the movie. I really liked it. I marathoned the Original Trilogy last night, and I think it really holds up to it (keeping in mind the not insignificant changes in cinema over the last 40 years). In many ways its retelling the same story - it's certainly hitting most of the sam...

You eat perogies simply because they're the best. My family handled stockings by letting my brothers and I all go down and unpack to stockings so long as it was after 7, and we were all up doing it together. That'd keep us busy until my parents would wander down whenever they were ready, and we'd un...

I don't think I'll have the time myself, but I can recommend using Google Hangouts (or Skype) plus Roll20 for D&D. We've run a number of campaigns that way over in DBChat.

Re: Star Citizen - Mini Sandbox Universe released!

So, Alpha 2.0 dropped recently. This updates contains a massive new map (2 million km a side), in orbit around a gas giant and containing multiple moons, space stations, and outposts. Alongside that come the first true multicrew ships and functionality, and the initial release of FPS combat (via a ...

I find watching Fallout streams to be unwatchably dull 90% of the time, and I imagine I'd feel the same about an unedited Lets Play. Not to mention just not having the time to watch one.

This though, I can see myself watching more of.

From what I gather, the FF7 "remake" feels like a remake in the same way Star Trek Into Darkness is a "remake" of Space Seed, Wrath of Khan, and Undiscovered Country.

(Not a perfect analogy, but my feelings towards Into Darkness are fairly reminiscent of Graham's rant about FF7)

The said they shot 5 "The Decadence" videos, and the third one went up 3 days ago. So I'm assuming the last 2 will be put up in the coming weeks - they like to spread out series rather than chaining them.

My setup was a laptop to my far left with the stream running fullscreen on it, a monitor to my left running Slack and VST Spreadsheet/editing, and my main monitor running Stat spreadsheets, IRC (#DesertBusBunker and a tab for Twitch chat I never used), as well as general purpose browsing.
