BFZ Packwars: Ridiculous Topdeck Edition

So, we splurged on a box of Battle for Zendikar and have been doing family pack wars - my wife plays casually and my 9-year-old is learning. We're halfway through the box, and it's been both fun and fruitful: already pulled an Expedition (Watery Grave) and both Gideon and Ob Nixilus. The 9-yo and I ...

Re: TTC - Community Cup 2015

A nice peek behind the scenes! Did you get to hang out with the community team and/or Wizards folks at all, or was it wall-to-wall work and then exhausted crashing? I hadn't known about Magic: the Amateuring until this; it took 15 minute into one episode (Magic Online -> an awesome roller coaster th...

Re: Vorthos Story Corner: Battle for Zendikar

Late night weekend software testing for production deployment is on a delay, so let's catch up on what our favorite laugh-in-the-face-of-a-god merfolk planeswalker is doing! Home Waters Kiora is remembering the stories of the gods told to her and her younger sister Turi. Adults hear stories about Ul...

Re: Crossing the Streams

I guess we showed you the "authentic" HeroQuest experience :P It was authentically awesome! Our played-by-12-year-olds barbarian was "Chesty McMantits", so Stab Manthrust is pretty accurate (if much more sophisticated). Graham wins for best name. Alex wins for best voice acting....

Re: Crossing the Streams

Just as an FYI: the first Hero Quest scenario is much longer and much harder than the next few. It's usually better to skip it and start on quest 2, which starts the actual storyline.

Re: Improvements [commodoreHUSTLE]

That wall poster (which I REALLY hope is not CG) needs to be everywhere. Cam should get a T-shirt made. Also the next time Cam is on feed dump just have that poster on the couch instead with his voice in a voice over for the whole episode. A Swiftly Tilting Cameron chat needs to make that a thing w...

Re: Vorthos Story Corner: Battle for Zendikar

I hope to write up this week's story tonight or this weekend (spoilers: it's great), but to note:

The Battle for Zendikar survey includes a story quiz section! Those who are reading along, go ace it.

Re: Qwerpline Ep02 - Break the Banks

Kept getting better as the episode went on, peaking with Lor...Ms. Schli...caller. Then, I was disappointed that it ended before I got to find out: how many beavers DOES it take to flood the highway? Because it happened! Hey, I got to find out! Well, not exactly. At least one not-very-talkative bea...

Re: Vorthos Story Corner: Battle for Zendikar

I'm a week behind! Last weeks story was a solid 'meh', plus I was working mad hours, so I had neither energy nor enthusiasm. Let's get caught up, though, with Nissa's Quest Nissa's back where she lost Ashaya and her connection to the land of Zendikar, following the age-old advice of "if you are...

Re: Bbattle for Zendikar Prerelease

Played 2HG. We made a pretty good R/G ramp/landfall deck, and then didn't have much else. Tried a B/R devoid with the Forerunners, and W/B alies/lifegain. Neither worked that great. Blue had great top end and nooooooooothing else - perhaps a U/G 'good stuff' and B/W/G allies? Who knows. There were p...

Re: Vorthos Story Corner: Battle for Zendikar

If I am not mistaken, in the UR story that described the imprisonment of the eldrazi, Ugin told Nahiri that they don't know the consequence of destroying the eldrazi, and that is why they should be imprisoned. Good catch. "Hence the dilemma," Ugin went on. "If we face them in the Bli...

Time for Magic: the Flavor-Textening (and to a lesser extent, the Artening)! I'm not going over every card, and I'm sure I'll miss something cool - if you see something, post it! Re: Battle for the Spoiler Season of Zendikar

The full spoiler is out! Made a quick pass through. There's a bigger-than-I-expected "when you gain life" effect out there with black, which in general sounds like a bad one to go for (in limited, at least). Black and white have a reasonable number of incidental life-gain spells and lifeli...

Was reeeeaaaally expecting all of the packs to have been opened. Then was reeeeally expecting Jer in the stinger. Good episode! I was definitely a blue player 'back in the day' (Ice Age, Homelands, Fallen Empires, 4th ed. mostly). Tons of counterspells and fiddles 'laces and zero ways to win the gam...

Re: Vorthos Story Corner: Battle for Zendikar

M:tG earns its 13+ rating today. Before we get into the thick of it, a brief note on vampires on Zendikar, as far as I know, from the UR articles and the book Zendikar: In the Teeth of Akoum. A lot of Nissa's backstory and probably a lot of the Eldrazi lore has been retconned from this time (the boo...

Re: Battle for the Spoiler Season of Zendikar

Soooooo, here's a thing. I don't know whether it's a big thing... You can Awaken the Man-Lands. They become a 0/0 with some +1/+1 counters. If you use their ability, they become, say, for Lumbering Falls, a 3/3, and the counters are still on it. Not nothing. As noted, because of the way it's templat...

One (probably intentional) thing with Winnie the Eldrazi is that, instead of being countered, even-costed spells can't be cast, which means that even the 'on-cast' triggers don't go off.

Re: Vorthos Story Corner: Battle for Zendikar

I don't the the UR's will 'catch up' to the full extent of the story show in the cards by the time the set releases; I think we'll have a few more weeks of BFZ before they do stories on other things before we start building for Oath. I am going to wait til the full set is spoiled (end of this week?)...
