Partly because my current sites mainly amount to personal projects that don't have large readerships and don't cost much to maintain. My methodology is to block all ads by default, and then selectively allow them on sites that I visit regularly (e.g. LRR, Penny Arcade, several other comics sites). It is still extremely rare that I will actually click on an ad.
