Re: Time for my semi-occasional philosophical discussion thr

Those are reasons why someone would want to help another person, not reasons why they should. What obligates them?

Re: Time for my semi-occasional philosophical discussion thr

There seems to be a consensus that people are not equal, but that people of some level of privilege are obligated to provide for people of less privileged positions. Why?

If we are not equal, are there not those who are superior to others? What should compel them to "make accommodations to those who need them"

What kind of job is Jer looking for? We might be hiring someone part time in the next little while. Pretty much anything that will work with his school schedule (class twice a week in the late mornings) and allow him to pay the bills. And preferably also still participate fully in Desert Bus. Maybe...

Re: Magic: The Gathering: Whatcha mean, there's no thread ye

I obviously have a poor method of shuffling. After one game I piled up my cards from it so that no two lands were next to each other, just as an added precaution against exactly such events. I shuffled it a bit, and in the next game ended up with eleven lands in a row, followed by one other card, t...

Re: Legend of Korra!

The flaw in the story is that the benders the audience gets to know best are Korra, who is literally a deity, and Mako and his brother, who are themselves the historically most disenfranchised minority group; urban poor.

Yeah, none of the endings were objectively "good", which felt perfect for the "your choices have consequences" structure of the series to date. It was the perfect final choice. -m None of your choices had any consequence besides filling up a score bar, itself an absurd mechanic ...

I'm having so much fun building decks! So far I have built two complete standard decks which I will test out at FNM this week: a black/blue deck I call "Zomgies" and a black/red deck I call "Sorin's Spawn." I've also built a 99 card singleton blue/white deck I call "Last St...

Re: Is rape "worse" than murder?

Couldn't the same be said of those who are kidnapped or murdered when out alone/too drunk to defend themselves? Yet the defense of "they had it coming" is rarely used in such a case. Both scenarios involve people putting themselves at risk, and yet only in one such scenario is blaming the...

Re: Is rape "worse" than murder?

I generally concur with everything Lying's said except for the death penalty bit. (I oppose the death penalty but not for that reason) Unfortunately it seems that North Americans, anyway, consider murder to be much more serious than rape. Hardly ever do we see people blaming the victim for murder. ...

I've got a thousand posts it's not spam. As a standalone game, NWN2 is bad. Objectively so. But for $5 you can open up lots of mods. Like Harp & Chrysanthemum, the best RPG experience of the last decade. A five hour mod for the worst RPG of the last millenia http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=...

Come try this NWN2 server. You can get it for $5 on steam!

I've been playing over at http://knownlands.com/ for a few years now. It's an NWN2 Persistent World (PW), but the structure is different. Unlike most PWs where a bunch of 20th level characters inexplicably sit at an inn gossiping about who pretend-cheated-on-who, you join an adventuring party, which...
