Podcast Changes and the New AskLRR

Postby James » 21 Sep 2010, 09:22

Hey Guys and Gals.

So we've been chatting over the past week and have come to the conclusion that we are taking on a bit to much when it comes to our "weekly" podcasts.

Many, many years ago (May 2006) it was started as bonus material being put out whenever Graham, Paul and whoever else was around had some extra time. And to be honest, back then, extra time was a lot easier to come by.

Lately it's just become to much. After a full day of meeting/video shoot you would be surprised how tired you can get. And more often than not the idea of sitting around in a circle talking to a microphone for over an hour and a half just isn't all that appealing.

So were making some changes. From now on, instead of 2 podcasts a week it's going back down to 1. However were not going to combine the podcasts back together, were going to alternate each week.

So this coming weekend we plan to record both podcasts and then Monday the 27th expect the LRRcast and October the 4th expect TGwP.

On To AskLRR

That thread has gotten silly. No one is able to ask questions that are current, or pertinant to a given video, or about news or current events because we are over a year behind.

So we made a hard call and locked the thread down. We may or may not try and take one last crack at it but don't hold your breath. Instead every other week I'll start a new AskLRR thread in which you guys can ask question regarding the videos, video games and what we would do if our only weapon against a zombie was a Rainbow Trout.

We hope you guys understand the changes that we are making and look forward to trying this new plan out.

It makes sense. Totally fine with it James. But I do have one question about AskLRR.

When you say you will open up a new thread, do you mean that the thread will be open for two weeks or one week (in other words, LRRcast B's AskLRR thread will open after "What We're Playing Now" A or "LRRcast" A)?

Each thread will be open for two weeks, and answered in the LRRcast.

I can't possibly add any more than Metcarfre has, so keep on keepin' on, I guess?

Any podcast is good podcast. Also, podcast.

Take a break, guys! You've definitely earned it.

Hope this new way works out for you. I agree with metcarfre and Hileict; we appreciate the effort and you've plenty earned the right to breathing space regarding the site.

I am really liking the sound of this. The current position in the askLRR thread was behind the time I actually started watching your videos, so it will be really great to actually ask questions and have a chance of hearing the answer!

So... are you guys ever going to, y'know, post the new podcasts?

No. They're now going to record them solely for their own amusement or record several episodes over the course of about a month and then drop one super massive edited 2-3 hour podcast on us. Every. Single. Month.

Or the opposite of that.. What was it? Oh, right.. Patience, young Samurai.

Bwah hah hah! Oh that made me laugh.

If there's one thing I know, LRR is almost as lazy as me, and will do as little work as possible, especially for the LRRcasts.

Great idea having current questions.
Although, it could end up like a miniature version of the AskLRR mega thread if there are tons of questions and there is no time to answer them.

Do a AskLRR mega-thread answering period during DB10!

I like this new format. Two podcasts a week (when you managed to pull it off) was a bit much, and I don't really have that time. Plus, my questions are actually answered this way. So thumbs up all around from me.
Just call me Dylan. It's easier to pronounce.

So what was the last question asked in the old AskLRR thread? Or, what page were they on. I may have to search for & forward my unanswered questions from there to the new threads.

Do you SEE the questions that follow that one?

THAT's why they closed the thread. Rather than answer those.

I just now read this. Wow. I guess I'm a little behind on podcasts.

Now I just need to find the one where they answered that question.

There are some threads here and here specifically about the issue. If you'll post a list to one of those threads of the podcasts you've confirmed to be broken, it'll help the crew to fix the issue.
