First, I had a really bad day today and it was nice to escape into your world for awhile so thank you.

Secondly, I like the length of this better, some of the casts seem to push 14 hours and I cant take that much, even though I enjoy it. I had this problem with Leo Laports This week in tech, I dont want to stop because you are talking about things I am interested in and discussing them in a way I find pleasing but it gets to the point I hate you and want you to stop.

Finally, I have had a couple ideas floating around in my head and I wrote a really rough draft for "the whole story". Would MTG be a bad choice? I know you try not to do TOO much magic content because people get annoyed.

I grew up in New Hampshire, an hour north of Boston, so I had plenty of exposure to the Boston accent. When I lived there, I considered myself to have no regional accent whatsoever, but since moving to Northern California I've discovered that's not true; my accent is just not that pronounced. Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine all have essentially the same accent; Mainers tend to have it stronger, though.

Even inside Boston there are many different accents; it's like London in that respect. Chelsea is different from Revere, which is different from Southie (which is the Good Will Hunting accent).

However, I rarely show my accent; I just have a few words that I occasionally take out a trailing "R".

Growing up around an accent can change yours, my dad has a weird accent because my grandparents were from Germany and had the thickest accents possible. I've heard a couple other people who sound the same, and they were all the children of parents with thick accents.

Also, all people from Tisdale, Sk sound roughly like Brent Butt. Not everyone from Saskatchewan, but everyone from Tisdale.

Just some random trivia for you: there was actually a Futurama comic where Fry, Bender and Leela and (of course) Scruffy competed in a curling (which they call "swurling" and is a lot more deadly) tournament using meteor rocks. I remembered the comic as soon as they said "curling" and "fictional characters," even before Graham mentioned Scruffy. lol

I agree that the LRR crew generally tend to have fairly mild/"neutral" accents, but I've noticed a few differences from the "generic midwestern US accent" that's common in US media--typically with vowel sounds. Most notably, Graham and Paul (and possibly others) pronounce the word "process" with a long-O, which is a typical British pronunciation (but not American); I'm unsure how different parts of Canada tend to pronounce that word. Similarly, the crew seems to vary in how long they make the O in "sorry", but all of them are a longer O than I'm used to (except possibly James's).

As for Boston, many people in the Boston area aren't natives--you'll certainly find many visitors at PAX, but even apart from that, there are e.g. nearly a quarter of a million college students alone in the greater Boston area (let alone people who graduated and found a job in the area). That said, in the right parts of Boston you can certainly find the distinctive, stereotypical accent...along with many others.

Wow, why are you being so accurate on my home and our obsession with directions and the best way to get places. Our accent also comes from Hollywood and needing to pronounce things in a neutral tone but quickly
i blame the news. But yeah over all a great show thanks for pointing out my home's greatest flaw. But really LA is easy to get around the freeway sytem makes sense if it is an interstate and goes north south has an odd number if east west even. Beyond that numbers are arbitrary beyond PCH which is our first proper highway.

I always remember hearing that the midwest had really neutral dialects, though perhaps I heard it that way because I lived in the midwest. That being said, places like Texas don't really try to pass off their accent as neutral.

On an un-related note, while I agree that Seth McDebit really shouldn't be a movie, I would not stop people from paying me money to try.

Do we know what costume you mean? That really generic dog one? With the dead dead eyes?

Yes. Yes we do.

But the costumers (in-fandom slang 'Fursuiters') try not to be snobbish about it, on the basis of 'everyone has to start somewhere'. There's also not so much a 'make your own costume' requirement as Cosplay, mainly because full body suits are labour intensive and require specialist skills to make, and just performing in them is *really really* physically hard on someone, and usually requires two people. The performer and the assistant who acts as their peripheral vision, and stops people from approaching behind them. Something I've done a couple of times. Couldn't bare to do the costuming myself, I'd collapse from heat exhaustion!

But YT doesn't auto-MP3 and upload to iTunes, so I guess we have to do both. Or something.

The classic for me is "about".

I grew up in the northeast US, where it's əbaʊt, but in western Canada it's əbɐʊt. Wiki calls this "Canadian raising", or more generally a raised dipthong. Of course, Classic Comedy Canadians say əbut, but I've never personally heard someone do that.

Lots of voice acting goes on in Vancouver, and "about" is always a giveaway. My brother was playing Jade Empire the other day, and I couldn't help but notice how half of China is from British Columbia.

Tara Strong tells a cute story about doing voice for US shows as a kid. Scripts would come to the child actors where "about" was replaced with "abalt".

This doesn't actually affect MP3s, but it does mean we won't be using Blip at all, going forward, since the downloads were the main selling point for us re: Blip vs YouTube.
Everyone seems to prefer YT from a usability standpoint anyway.

So that means we need a new service to upload our MP3s to, adding another step to our process. Sigh.
