Beowulf is not Shakespearean, Scottish, or Danish.
It is a classical Anglo-Saxon text. The author is unknown. The character Beowulf himself is a Geat, inhabiting Götaland, which is in modern Sweden. It is the story of his trials against the monster Grendel, Grendel's hag-like mother , and a Dragon.
