More download options?

Postby PerryTachett » 15 Apr 2008, 06:58

I have been having trouble downloading the LRRcasts.
Is there anyway I could:

a) find an alternate host of the LRRcasts
b) download them from LRR more quickly than through the RSS feed

The download from the archive page is slow to non-existent. (For me, at least)

They have them on the site as mp3's. When you open the podcast, each on has a link for downloading it. Either right click and save the link to the mp3, or go to page info, media, and save it from there.

Yes, I tried that, but I got two issues:

1) Instead of allowing me to save it, it tried to play it.
2) Even then, it didn't download any at all.

Don't just click that link, you have to right-click and choose "Save As"

it will play it if you just click that link. You have to right click and save as. I'm guessing you already knew this, but still, it works just fine for me, and everyone else on these boards to my knowledge, so I'm guessing its an error on your side of things, not the site. Anyone know what problems could arise in dealing with media?

There i also an RSS feed at http://feeds.feedburner.com/lrrcast. It seems to integrate well with iTunes and Zune with the newly added album art. Of course, you can also use whatever feedreader you prefer.

No, none of that worked.
However, I just got it with the following bash command.

Code: Select all

lwp-request http://loadingreadyrun.com/lrrcast/apr10.mp3 > lrrcast.mp3

Well... it doesn't have to be Linux, Bash is used on Macs as well.
But yes, it is Linux. (Ubuntu 7.10, Gutsy Gibbon)

I have no problem downloading from Firefox in Gutsy.
(As everyone's been saying - I just open the LRRCast, then right click on the download link and save as) (I just checked and the feedburner feed seems to work as a podcast feed in Rhythmbox if you use that...)

Hmm... well, I'll just continue using Bash to download it.
Is there anyway to directly download the videos, though?

yep, nothing like having all your mp3's stripped and coded for apple. forced changes to your id3 tags and a fair chance of your system freezing.

i don't really mind ipods but i refuse to accept that you must install their crappy, bloated, resource hogging software just to transfer some music. IF it was just plug and play, like USB memory access (like a thumbstick) i would by one tommorow. although don't forget they only have one day of standard warranty, a non replaceable battery and a max lifetime of 18months.

sad but true, it's still better than microsoft. but with windows at least i don't need to install some program just to even download the mp3z.

I have MAC itunes, which I quite enjoy. My mac has never frozen, and all of my files are nice and encoded with their song's respective lyrics.

I HAVE replaced my ipod's battery, but it wasn't because I needed it. I had dropped said ipod and the arm on the disk drive broke, so I thought that while I was in there I might as well install a longer-lasting battery.

I download music all of the time from the internet and from less.. erm.. well.. I don't do torrents.. don't know what you're talking about...

You can go to this page & use a drive-by downloader like DownloadThemAll to get them. If nothing else it gives you quicker access to the files for "Save As."

I could also uplolad my 4 gig archive of all of them (less three,) but I was gonna contact the crew about that first.

Ubuntu isn't real linux it's the wading pool of the linux world. It barely takes any work at all to get it to do what you want. Where is the fun in that?

This

Real men use OpenSolaris and have a 20 disk ZFS array... or at least use Fedora.
