See, now I found this mildly entertaining. Sure they switch genres at the blink of an eye, but they don't do it poorly. I usually don't go for the metalcore thing like they've got going, but it plays with dissidence and melody cleverly kind of like the Fall of Troy, and then throws in the melodic sections to resolve things.
Also, some of the music videos are hi-larious:

Honestly. I thought some of the music _I_ listened to was weird, but...Stephen Lynch has NOTHING on this.

Re: LRRcast for Killer Instinct
Some of the music I listen to is definitely weird, even in comparison with Attack! Attack! It is, however, of a much greater quality, and without the dreadful music video. That crabcore pose reminds me of Megaman bosses.
Am I the only one who sees Graham and Matt as, respectively, the bassist and drummer from Eyebrows and the Thugs? I think of them as a hardcore-ish punk three-piece, led by "Eyebrows" Vaughn on guitar and vocals.
Yay for my first question on AskLRR!
Boo because I posted it when I first joined the forums and it's only just been answered!
Yay for it actually leading to a more interesting conversation than I expected!
Boo to everybody except Bill for misreading it! I did indeed write "LRR characters and/or real people", not "LRR characters and/or crew", implying the inclusion of, y'know, people in general. Bill wins... something.
Actually, it was pretty interesting for me to hear the crew discuss the relative strengths and skills of their characters, since it parallelled what I've been thinking while putting together roles for my planned LoadingReadyMafia game.

Honestly though...Crunkcore needs to die...badly...
Taken from Wikipedia:
Metal Edge Magazine has called Brokencyde "fucking horrendous".[12] Thrash Magazine has called them "a mockery to the world of music".[13] Another metal magazine, Decibel, has repeatedly made fun of the band, mentioning them in a interview with the group Big Business, and once ironically referring to then as their "favorite screamo-crunk band". British commentator Warren Ellis calls Brokencyde's "Freaxxx" music video "a near-perfect snapshot of everything that’s shit about this point in the culture".[14] Says August Brown of the Los Angeles Times, "The 'Albucrazy'-based band has done for MySpace emo what some think Soulja Boy did for hip-hop: turn their career into a kind of macro-performance art that exists so far beyond the tropes of irony and sincerity that to ask 'are they kidding?' is like trying to peel an onion to get to a perceived central core that, in the end, does not exist and renders all attempts to reassemble the pieces futile."[15]
"If this is the future of rock music, we're fucking outta here", - wrote Kerrang! in its January 2009 What the F* is up with Screamo Crunk feature. Placing the 'irritation factor' mark at level "very high", the magazine concluded - "Thanks to their tacky, lightweight and frankly rubbish sound, they've probably only got a shelf life of about six months". I really love crazy schizophrenic multi-genre music, and these guys give it a bad name. If your going to combine musical styles make sure you can do each of them well, and not just slam them together.
On a related note I still have a bone to pick with Kathleen for attacking Mr. Bungle in a Phailhaus video, I can see why people might not like them but i think their great.

She didn't disparage Mr. Bungle at all. She said they sounded like 'a clown caught in a mangle'

Re: LRRcast for Killer Instinct
Meh; I'm just not a fan of guttural, nonsensical screaming. I prefer to understand what the singer is singing, let alone listen to them. Besides, I don't see the point in tearing up your larynx like that.
Then again, I am a fan of Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, where screaming is not only perfect for this type music, but you can understand what the guy is screaming about. If you listen to all their albums (3) from the beginning to now, you can tell they've gone from crazy screaming to a balance of screaming and actual singing.

That's actually pretty good. I still dislike the scratchy scream of screamo, but the harsh singing at the beginning was nice...

She said it was a good thing to play if you wanted everyone to leave your party, which, interestingly enough, I could understand if she was talking about there second album, but that has almost no clown in it so I don't think she was familiar with it.
And some of Mr. Bungle (the album (the one she was talking about)) just sounds like punky funk (or Funky Punk) with some mettle thrown in and if you don't mind the subject matters of junkfood, john Travolta's acting career, and porn it is perfectly listenable.
And again, I am makeing no claims about their next album, I really like it, but I can't really explain how.

She also said that Mr Bungle will do a better job of clearing a room than shouting "Everyone out, I need a condom".
Also that Garfunkle and Oates song was so awesome, thank you for posting it.

Kathleen actually has several of their albums and fully enjoys them. It doesn't change that their sound could easily clear a room.Pigmy Wurm wrote:On a related note I still have a bone to pick with Kathleen for attacking Mr. Bungle in a Phailhaus video, I can see why people might not like them but i think their great.

Re: LRRcast for Killer Instinct
Re: my weird listening tastes, I consider California by Mr. Bungle to be extremely easy on the ear (to be fair, it's a hell of a lot more accessible than the other two albums), and it's one of my three favourite driving music albums. Disco Volante is more for serious listening, but is at least as good as California: the first time I ever heard it, I actually said out loud "This is the music I have been waiting all my life to hear!" Which slightly embarrasses me now, but not because the music isn't absolutely fantastic. I just can't believe I said something so completely ridiculous.
On a side note, I actually took part in a school exchange programme with Eureka High School, where Mr. Bungle was originally formed. Somewhere on my hard drive I have some appalling quality home video footage of them performing at a school talent contest, which the teachers must have found... interesting.

Re: LRRcast for Killer Instinct
I'm afraid this Eureka is in northern California, and doesn't have a particularly high proportion of scientists. It does have a "secret" FBI office with a gift shop, though: I bought a T shirt and a pen. Apparently, since they keep such a low profile, they actually sell most of their stuff to other FBI gift shops across the country who have run out of stock.
It's a really nice area up there: lots of great forest. And of course it has the advantage of not being fictional.

This is Lady GaGa, she once did a concert dressed almost entirely in near-transparent bubbles.

Re: LRRcast for Killer Instinct
I'm getting to this podcast party late and I'll have to watch the Attack Attack video once I'm home, but where's the discussion about the LRR characters in JRPG's? I expected to see a page about it. I suppose the crew covered it pretty well.
My first answer was Photoshop Wizard and I'm glad someone pointed it out, finally. Photoshop Wizard is the magic user. Ulrich could come in as the Fighter/Warrior/Tank. Ways to Abuse Shaolin could work for Monk. Jer as Jer could pull off a Bard. Any Ninja character for Assassin. There’s even a Priest from Deeply Religious. Alex from Mercenary Solutions as Gunslinger should be obvious. Paul from cHustle is the Mechanic.
The female characters are tough. I can't think of any character for the well-endowed, scantily clad Woman. There isn't even an annoying Young Girl. I guess we could go with a female Gun Slinger from Mercenary Solutions. Or the Priest role might for Kathleen as the ambiguously religious-person giving the eulogy for “That’s What She Said.” Any help on female characters would be appreciated.
The summons have me stumped as well. A game would need a fair number of them, but there aren’t a whole lot that I can think of. LRR doesn’t go Supernatural or Mythic that often. Would they all have to be taken from Guide to Lesser Gods of Innocous Household Things? Otherwise, I could see Cardboard Man, Mr. Ballzmatron and Toast.
Annoying NPCs would include the Officer/Detective Rodriguez and Detective Riley as the Local Guard, Talk Like a Pirate for a Pirate, LARPers from cHustle as the Theatre troup, politician from Rapidfire as the Corrupt Mayor (with The Runners as his Lackeys?), Morgan as The Local Chef - the list goes on and on.
Mini-bosses and Bosses could include Warriors of Darkness, all of the Metal Gear rejected bosses, Mr. Ballzmatron and clearly the end boss needs to be Mastermind Geoff that’s been pulling all the strings the whole time!
Minigames could include a vastly simplified Viking Secret Wildcard Poker and Rejected Wii Games. Other ideas?
As far as the plot, it’s either a redemption story for Ulrich a la Final Fantasy 2 (US) or a prince that’s lost his memory. I can’t think of any royal characters in LRR. Has there been a royal figure of any kind in a LRR Video? It would be a bit boring if it were just Graham that lost his memory.
Maybe I'll have to ... acquire a copy of RPG Maker. Who am I kidding? That would be a ridiculous amount of work and I doubt I'd ever be able to get it done. I have all of the cards and rules for a LRR card game which is just sitting abandoned on my PC from a few months ago. Still a LRR RPG could be fun.
