...and doesn't have to rush off to work right away...
This is a real 'old school' bombardment - takes me back to the USENET days. Actual spam advertisers tend to be more subtle than this since they never get views with this kind of blatant action.
Two fake accounts with a video card listed for firs-
Oh, shit. "Riibekka" changed its "First Video" entry, to a probably logical entry - this weeks vid check it out - I SWEAR it was listing an ATI video card about an hour ago.
For being exceptionally stupid in strategy, it's starting to show signs of (belated) subtlety...
But repeated uniform spam ads? Heck, at least the Nosers spammed up <rec.games.mecha> with unique posts showing sequential pages of an HTML manual.
To be honest, it first seemed like a rudimentary DoS attack, but now it illogically seems the bots' have more intelligence - pity since trying to blend in NOW would be pointless.
ADDENDUM: This IS a Denial Of Service attack under the guise of ad-bombing - the later spam posts now have a longish paragraph copy-pasta'd from some political history essay...increase the length of the posts (which were already unnecessarily long for ads) to strain the site more - I'm starting to get halted processes and fatal errors.

But the two most important questions here:
Why?
and
Who?
Why?
and
Who?
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war...and other things that are not war.
I survived spaMEGAdon and all I got was this lousy signature joke.

Re: SpaMEGAdon
I caught the beginning of this on my phone early in the morning, but wasn't able to go online for the rest of the day due to a local fundraising project. I'm glad it was taken care of, but I really didn't see any of the original spam posts. Sounds weird. I, too am wondering who would attack LRR with a DoS bombardment like this.

Re: SpaMEGAdon
I doubt it was targeted... probably just the usual pick-a-random-phpBB-forum-off-Google-and-attack routine. Except for some reason focusing a lot of attention on a single forum instead of spreading the love around like they usually do. Dunno why, seems that would be less useful for the spammer all around.
While no one overhear you quickly tell me not cow cow.

Okay, I'll get a new sign. *puts phone away* As it turns out hindsight is my superpower, not foresight. SpaMEGAdon has happened! SpaMEGAdon! Sir, spambots times a million! SpaMEGAdon!

Did anyone have the presence of mind to screen-cap SpaMEGAdon?
