Forum Changes
As you may have seen the forums have undergone some changes this afternoon. Nothing major just getting rid of some old, unused forums, while adding some new forums to try and break out discussion to make it easier to find what you guys want to talk about.
Gone:
ENN, Daily Drop, Korea, Iron Stomach Challenge
Added:
1.We've added an entire new section for Gaming. You'll find areas to talk about Videos Games, Magic the Gathering and various Tabletop and RPGs.
2.We created a couple new video forums for both our MtG related videos and a forum dedicated to our behind the scenes series, Loading Time.
3.We also split up our podcast forums into individual forums for each. When we decide on our 4th podcast you will also find that there.
I'll be spending the next couple days moving posts to their new appropriate forums, if you see any after this weekend, please feel free to DM me or send me an email alerting me to the topic.
Thanks guys and enjoy the new and improved forums!

I see nothing wrong with these changes, here's hoping they pan out well

Re: Forum Changes
Seems a little weird to have forum games in the video game section. Dunno if you've thought about that already and decided against separating them simply for the practical purposes of not having to move that many more topics. Just thought I'd mention it.
Re: Forum Changes
Real talk, how many forum games are ongoing at a given time? Do they need their own forum?
Honestly curious.

Re: Forum Changes
Active right now I think there's only about three. There's the two name that game/movie threads, normally one game of Mafia running at a time, and that's about it. There have been others. But it seems like it's been a while since they've been played.
Thinking about it though, I suppose there are a decent number of threads in General as well. Depending on what you define as a game. There's the Be nice thread, answer a question with a question, Fraudulent Pursuit, and likely some more that aren't on the front page.
I think that it wouldn't be neccessary to have a forum for them. They seem fine where they are and don't clutter things too much. But taking into consideration the ones in the general as well I can see the value of having a seperate area. I guess it largely depends on how many of them are actually active.

Re: Forum Changes
I agree a forum for them makes sense. They don't fall under the purview of video games (depending on your definition, I guess) and I know I'm also a bit sad when I go into the general forum and see one of the games I don't read is the only thing with new posts.
I'd also probably add "Rank the user above you" and "Ask the user below you" to Kapol's list.

Re: Forum Changes
I anticipate clicking on Video Suggestions thinking it's Games and Gaming for another day or two, but otherwise I really like these changes.

Re: Forum Changes
It's alright if you don't feel there's enough forum games to give them their own section (although tabletop games has its own, and there are only two topics there), but it seems like it might be misleading to have them in an area called "Video Games". So, maybe it's just the name that needs some work?

Re: Forum Changes
video suggestions was in the middle of the videos section before I think... Easy to miss.
As for forum games I think they could use thier own section and pull out the inflate your post count ones from general chat too.

A thought: does this mean Iron Stomach Challenge is over?

If we do another, we'll file it under Bonus, I guess.

Well there aren't really enough currently to merit their own section, but having them in 'Video Games' makes no sense and having them all in 'General Discussion' will clutter it quite a bit, though quite probably still the best option, since there aren't THAT many yet
Inconclusive.

Re: Forum Changes
I'd say renaming video games to something more general is the best option.

So much this.
It's been almost a week, and I'm STILL doing it, but that's more my fault than the improvements to the forums.

What about having them in the Tabletop and D&D forum?
We are all made of star dust. However we are also made of nuclear waste.

Could well work, slight renaming of the section title to include 'and forum games' and shot 'em in there.....
On the other hand, it could encourage the starting of many more forum games and they could swamp tabletop discussions, though again, if that happens THEN make their own entire section
It's just crazy enough to work,
by which I mean it's a reasonably sensible idea.

Re: Forum Changes
I don't think it'd work to just tack them on to another forum like that. It'd seem weird to have forum games next to D&D and Tabletop.
The easiest thing would likey to simply rename the video game forum into General Gaming or something along those lines. It'd act as a catch all for everything including video games. Or have a general gaming section in addition to the three current sections for forum games and whatever might not fit in a single other catagory. Though I think video games are fine even with the forum games mingled in myself.

Re: Forum Changes
Easier to rename video games, but (I have nothing against tabletop games or tabletop gamers) it's fairly likely there'll be a lot fewer threads in the tabletop section than video games

Re: Forum Changes
That's true, but at the same time putting a third, completely unrelated item in that section makes less sense than just making Video Games into general gaming to me. I'd almost say it'd be better to put it into MtG since that's only one thing while Tabletop covers a wide variety of games.

I've noticed that pictures no longer automatically resize down to the width of the forum, like they did yesterday.

I made a change to how the image resizing is implemented, but it should still be working (it works for me). Try doing a refresh and let me know if it is still not working for you.
