CAH's Tabletop Deathmatch - Teaser

Postby Graham » 09 Sep 2013, 01:03

Cards Against Humanity ran a game design contest and received 500 entries. They asked the 16 finalists to come to GenCon 2013 and pitch their games to a panel of judges. We filmed it. Look for the documentary miniseries, coming this fall!

Intrigued that you've been listed as LoadingReadyRun, rather than as Bionic Trousers Media.

I think I remember someone commenting on the YouTube page that they're still working out when they're going to be LRR and when they're going to be Bionic Trousers for a gig.

I understand this problem, as I'm currently both Geeking Out About and Saucy Goose Press, and also in charge of a third thing that I'm not ready to reveal yet. And I have to decide which hat I wear and when.

The problem is... while we did a great job of putting the BTM logo in front of every episode of Strip Search and Friday Nights (our two highest-profile series) everyone knows us as LRR.

So maybe we should just be LRR, right?

I don't know.

LoadingReadyRun Productions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bionic Trousers Media, LLC.

I'm envisioning a vast pyramid of corporate structure where everyone who has helped with a video is a Assistant Vice President of some kind.

IMO, the easiest designation would be for you to be Bionic Trousers when you're working on other peoples' stuff that you don't own and they're paying you for it and Loading Ready Run when you're working on stuff that you own or stuff for other people who aren't paying you directly, like Desert Bus.

The reason why you'd want to keep these things separate is that it will become rather clear later on which intellectual properties you own and who owns them, just in case you feel like doing other things with those characters for merchandising purposes, other media licensing deals, etc.

CAH and I literally talked about that yesterday!

Which is say... get back to you soon.
It will be soon.

FWIW, I've always personally felt that it simply made sense to say that you're LoadingReadyRun when it's your baby, and Bionic Trousers Media when it's someone else's. Which means Strip Search and Tabletop Deathmatch would have you as BTM. While Friday Nights would be LoadingReadyRun... yes, it's for Wizards of the Coast, but you couldn't be swapped out for anyone. That's your baby even if Wizards of the Coast is paying.

For your baby.

Don't overthink that metaphor.

Also, yes, I thought about that for months.

(I just saw this thread again. My bad.)

I'm just going to go ahead and bump this with a link to the thing.

I'm sure Graham will chime in with some info when he gets a chance.

I think it looks great and I enjoyed watching it even though I have 0 interest in the subject so I guess that says a lot. You definitely nailed a style of doing things that shines through both here and in Strip Search and makes it instantly recognizable as a BTM product. Bradley's work is also stellar as usual.

Looking forward to watching more of it though I don't suppose you can tell us how many episodes we're getting?

Uh... uhhhhh... it's online!!

There are 16 main episodes (one for each of the games, and about 15-16 mins each), plus a final episode.
Thanks so much for the kind words! So glad you're enjoying it!

I just started watching the series, and I'm loving it already. Bradley's intro theme is oddly satisfying, and I loved the moment when "Edward Tufte" popped up in the lower third.

Just finished watching the series; a great idea for a contest, and a really top quality production. Well played LRR or Bionic Trousers or whoever the hell you are! ;) Interesting interviews, super editing, just great work.

I have a few questions (if you don't mind)

How much material did you have per game, to chop down into the 15 minute episodes?
Which games did you like the look of?
Did you get to play any of the games?
Is the Deathmatch running next year, and are you going to film it?

****SPOILER WARNING ***** (for the result of the Deathmatch)

Really glad the judges took the prize-awarding decision that they did. I thought as I was watching it that they had two distinct tiers going on, and that deciding between (say) a lightwieght 10 minute ice breaker and a two hour immersive strategy game was going to be very tough. The judges obviously thought so too.

Great series, really enjoyed it. I am so buying Penny Press for my playgroup...

Speaking as someone who doesn't play a lot of board games, I really enjoyed this series. It struck a good balance between explaining the games and their creators, but didn't drag on like it so easily could have.

I do have a feeling that this "both" decision will be a bit less controversial than the last one on a major LRR competition show. :P
