I got a Goldbug when I was a kid and I think it somehow ended up in one of the many junk drawers around here... though I don't think I ever knew it was called Goldbug until now.

You guys never saw The Return Of Optimus Prime? It was like, the single greatest TV moment of my childhood, evar. Crazy alien virus makes everyone psychotic, including transformers, and you can get infected just by TOUCHING it. Bumble Bee gets jacked the F up. Rodimus Prime saves a Quintison from a group of plague-carriers in return for the Quint ressurecting Optimus Prime, and then fixes Bumble Bee, with a more modern car make (so that Hasbro could re-release him as a pull-back and go toy) who exclaims "look at me, Optimus! I'm not just Bulmble Bee anymore, I'm a genuine Gold Bug!" and thus Optimus christens him Goldbug.

Then Rodimus gets infected, and prime is coated in a special kind of shielding that makes him impervious to the virus. Optimus fights Rodimus, takes the matrix from him (turning him back into Hot Rod), and then dives into the Matrix to talk to Alpha Trion in hopes of find a cure. Unfortunately, none is found. As a last ditch effort, he opens up the the matrix itself, and one "you've got the touch" montage later, and the matrix is extinguished, taking the virus out in the process. It was, for the most part, the end of the animated series (look, screw the headmasters mini, THAT was the way it went out, just let me have this). Ended on a high note.



In the comics, on the other hand, G.I.Joe blew him to smitherines, and then they rebuilt him with the help of Ratchet, with an updated look, thus he became Goldbug. True story.
